Victims of a sexual assault

are not going to contact a coach or university employee about the incident and simply shrug their shoulders if nothing happens to the perpetrator. In the adult world, this would be equivalent to going to someone’s boss or HR department to report them of a rape. Silly.
Sexual assault victims are either going to the nearest police station to report a violent crime or to a hospital (where they will report a suspected crime to the police).
In fact, “report it to the police immediately” should be the default response to ANY person who alleges to be a victim of a sexual assault. This is common sense. If they refuse to do so, it is entirely inappropriate (and probably illegal) for a university to punish a student who hasn’t been charged with a crime and hasn’t been afforded due process.
This really isn’t that complicated, guys.

I'm not an anti democrat or an anti Oboma person. You can thank them for this shite.

Regardless of whether a victim reports an incident directly to the police or not, students/athletes at LSU are instructed to report all incidents to them.
The policy is clear "Any member of the University community who believes that he or she has been subjected to sexual harassment has a right and an obligation to report it to any University official, supervisor, or the Office of Human Resource Management."

Wouldn’t know how I would react as a sexual assault victim as I have never been one. But, it is always easy to say how you would react to a situation if you were ever put in that position.

Unless you know the shame that comes with it, don’t speak about things you don’t know. Some people would rather keep it to themselves and try and pretend it didn’t happen than have to relive it giving testimony etc. I don’t know if these cases are horseshite or not, but you making a blanket statement like that is just fricking dumb dude.

That's the sad(dest) truth about Title IX as it exists...
It proffers a false path to justice and victims are dissuaded from going to the authorities for what is clearly criminal accusations or occurrences. They are suckered into believing this false path will get them justice and all it gets, in the best case, is punitive administrative actions.
If your house catches on fire, while it is burning, do you call your mortgage company? No you call the fire department. After the fire is out you call insurance and notify the mortgage company.
Contact the cops first, then the prosecutor, then demand they notify the school (Title IX) on your behalf.

Unfortunately true. The individuals involved went to the title 9 office. Had a discussion and then refused to report the incident to them either.
No woman should subject to sexual assault... it is awful.
UN fortunately I have an experience of a family friend that went through the legal/police/court system with one of these allegations. The allegation was months after the fact... no evidence of any kind. He said she said situation. Yet the alleged perpetrator was held in jail for 45 days. While the police/DA investigated nothing.. no rape kit no witnesses ..

In the adult world
this is the key phrase here, it's not the adult world, they are kids. Also these are people they know and trusted a lot more complicated than simply going to the police.

this is incredibly naive and also shows a lack of understanding about the issue. One of the many problem with sexual assault is the cops don't always believe the victims.

If it involves 2 students, and especially if it happens on campus, I could see a victim choosing to report it to the school and/or police.

I take it you’ve been a victim of sexual assault personally since you know exactly how they would respond? It’s also interesting that you think every victim would respond in the exact same manner. I would think you as a victim, which you clearly must be to know, would understand the different ways these situations can affect different people emotionally and mentally.

The Justice Department puts the percentage of rapes and sexual assaults reported at between 20% and 40%, as the number fluctuates each year. For those that are reported, there's a huge problem with investigation and thorough follow-up by the authorities to sexual assault. Check the data on the number of rape kits used where nothing further is done with them. I'm not certain if its a lack of funds or what, but just about every venue in the country fails on the pursuit. I Googled this and a Dallas Morning News article suggests less than 1% of the reported cases result in a prosecution.
