Bo Pelini's first stent at LSU starting in 2005 with statistics...

During his first two games his defense gave up 30 to Arizona State and 31 to a crappy Tennessee offense led by a transfer from LSU's bench, Rick Clausen. Guess where his scoring defense ended up by the end of the season?

Guess where his scoring defense ended up on 2006?

Guess where it ended up in 2007?
LINK
He has a national championship ring from his worst performing year.
His resume with LSU caliber athletes shows why he was hired. If his resume doesn't start improving in 2020. It may also show why he gets fired.
Edit: the first link went to the schedule, not the scoring defense rankings at first. I fixed it now.
Food for thought. Enjoy!

Pelini is here for atleast this season, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. But if the defense hasn't shown significant improvement by the end of the season you can't go into next season with him. He's got 7 games to make it right.

Look I’ll hope for the best and pray history repeats itself but color me skeptical at this point
I guess it’s a good sign that the big plays last week were due to one or two players being in the wrong gap and not the whole defense looking confused.

I mean We’re already showing improvement.
How good can we get by the end of the year? Let’s see.

Let me ask y'all a question,do you think coach o is going to listen people who wants him to get rid of pelini just because you want him to.y'all really don't know what it takes to learn a defense. First you need the right players, which takes recruiting them.2nd,u need time to learn the defense which usually takes at least a year or more.3rd, it takes patiense

Plus there was no spring practice to get it installed. This most likely led to all of the confusion of duties the first few games. What concerned me most was his inability to go from man to man to zone when we were getting torched on crossing routs by Miss State. His in game adjustments were much better against S.C. so I feel a little better about salvaging this season.

This man didn't forget how to coach. He knows what he's doing got to give him time.

It appears that once Saban's defensive recruits left his defense dropped accordingly.

Serious question, what/who were the other most qualified choices instead of Pelini? Was it just a Coach O buddy hire? or were there not any quality DC's on the market?
I do not remember the discussions.

Technically I guess you are right. But it is minimal. MSU averaged 8.3 ypp (yards per play). Mizzou averaged 8.6 ypp. SC averaged 7.9.
SC's 7.9 ypp is the highest they averaged in a game all season (that includes a game vs. Vandy). Almost two yards more than their second best performance. MSU had its highest ypp average in a game this season vs LSU...by nearly 5 yards! Mizzou had its highest total vs. an opponent this year by over 3 yards.
Right now only Vanderbilt and Ole Miss are giving up more yards per play than LSU. Vandy, MSU, Mizzou and SC are not great offensive teams by any measure. Without the benefit of playing LSU's defense their numbers would be far worse

The numbers and trends say not at all. These shitty performances have come against average to bad SEC offenses. LSU has YET to play the good offenses of the SEC.

Well I would hope we'd show improvement. It would have been pretty tough to do much worse than what we saw through the first three games of the season.

LSU had just come off a historic season and clearly was willing to spend a ton of money on a new DC...as evidenced by the fact they made Bo Pelini the second highest paid asst. coach IN THE NATION.
Clearly LSU could be a stepping stone for coaches towards a bigger job. Aranda had just become a HC and Brady went from an analyst for the Saints to passing game co. for LSU to NFL OC in ONE season. Clearly LSU was willing to pay a tremendous amount for a new DC. With those two things in mind you have to imagine the DC job would have been in HUGE demand.
Pelini wasn't a "last ditch" hire. He was the guy O wanted and coerced Woodward into grossly overpaying to get him.

24 points is better than 44.
We gave up a. Few big plays but mostly in a handful of drives.
Do you watch the games or just cherry pick stats to be miserable about afterwards?

Why don’t you post the information instead of links. You are the worst kind of poster.

and all his defenses were ranked #3 in total yards plus he had more sacks and turnovers in his 3 years than arandas first 3 years here.
but shite has to get fixed with these players now who cannot execute the system.

Oeaux had over 200 applicants contact him re the job including quite a few DCs and HCs.
He had his pick. He was advised by some excellent coaches to hire Bo.
