Golden retriever turned 4 in July. My wife noticed a bump near her tail one day last week because the dog was chewing at it. We took her to the vet and they said it was a mast cell tumor and they needed to remove it and send it off for path. Just got the results back and its a high grade tumor. They are recommending us to a vet oncologist at Auburn University and we are trying to get an appointment.
She just turned 4 and I am completely devastated.

My lab had the same, at about the same age, they surgically removed it and she lived to be 16 when we had to put her down...each case is different but dont put the cart before the horse

Had an 8 year old dog pass earlier from Cancer, earlier in COVID. Never fun. Multiple tumors found, developed within 3 months they said.
Prayers sent, good luck.

Damn, I am so sorry
I lost a young dog to cancer, it was caught too late
Think positive, Auburn is a great vet school & the strides in animal oncology is amazing
Best of luck

Had similar happen with our Akita. It happened very fast and we put her down within 2 months. Sorry you have to deal with this.

Had that happen right above my dog's eye, and the test came back saying it was malignant. Fortunately we're about a year later and nothing else has popped up.

Sorry bro. Take good care of your pooch. A good dog is the best thing in life.

Our dog has had three separate surgeries for mast cell tumors. Shes got some scars but otherwise healthy. Just watch for bumps going forward and catch them early. Good luck

That's a shame, hopefully they can remove it and get it under control.

I feel for you man. I’ve had to put my last two labs down for cancer. One was only three.
Cancer sucks all the way around.

Sorry to hear. I lost a boxer to a mast cell tumor about 8 years ago. Best wishes to your hound. Spoil the hell outta her with each day you have left.

Sorry to hear the news and it's so tough when a family member is ill.

They make a special dog food for that. Less than 20% carbs (tumors feed on carbs).

My wife's dog had that shite. They wanted to do all of that also. We had the vet cut it out and rejected the chemo/oncology. 5 years later he's better then ever. The tumor basically creates a histamine response and the dog was miserable until it was removed.

Honestly, it's only 4. Cut your losses, say goodbye and get another one down the road.
