Yahoo Sports

quote:

Revenue projections for the league this season were missed by about $1.5 billion, the person said. The losses were the result of a combination of factors — the shutdown caused by the pandemic, the cancelation of 171 regular-season games, completing the season in a bubble at Walt Disney World without fans, the nearly $200 million price tag for operating that bubble and a yearlong rift with the Chinese government that saw NBA games not shown on state television there.

Good thing they've got the cash cow of the WNBA to make up for losses

I think they get hammered on season ticket holders not renewing for next season.

The tv contract was already signed. Low viewership for the bubble wouldn’t show up in this year’s revenue

I hate the nba and all the pc crap, but I don’t think you can really compare this year.

Honestly, a less than 20% drop in revenue this year in a business where the revenue is impacted significantly by lack of in-person attendance is pretty good. If 40% of your revenue is gate and you spend 200,000,000 on a bubble as well I am not sure they can be too upset. There are a helluva lot of businesses that would have loved to only lose 20% this year.

they don't like facts dude. since revenue sharing is 50/50. it works out to be a loss of a little over $1 milli per player

Outright supporting a country that is literally rounding up the Uighurs tends to bite a company in the arse.

they agreed to raise the escrow amount from 10% to 25%,

quote:

Agents are bracing for the possibility of up to 40% of the escrow being withheld from players, sources told ESPN. That money would offset losses incurred with a lack of revenue coming in from home games

Good. May they continue to slowly kill their product so long as they are a part-time political action group.

NBA total revenue in 18-19 was 7.7 billion.
NHL total revenue in 18-19 was 4.6 billion.
MLB total revenue in 19 was 9.8 billion.

NBA is officially in the NHL tier of sports. A regional niche. Despite sucking every dick that will jizz a penny down its throat.
