Feds can bail them out. $1.5 Billion is chump change when you wasted 35 trillion in handouts to Wall Street, banks and corporate welfare socialists since 2008-09.

Revenue projections for the league this season were missed by about $1.5 billion

The losses were the result of a combination of factors

Couple things here. What does the cost of the bubble have to do with missing revenue projections? And how on earth did it cost that much? Could have built their own bubble for that amount.

Even if the bubble didn't cost 200 million it still cost them money that they would not get back in revenue. If the pels spent 200 million to host games and then made 0 money from revenue, yeah that kinda plays a part.

You realize they also likely did not pay their full leases for the arenas either, right? It's a balancing act.

This year's hit wasn't expected to be the one to look at. It will be next years. They NBA got its playoff television money whether there were fans there or not. That was not lost.

They were 3/4 done with the season when things shut down. Team's also saved money on travel expenses, paying for employees at the arenas and much more. It wasn't like they paid everything anyhow. It was proven they didn't pay all of their employees that were furloughed.

That said, next season will be the big one. They lost a lot of fans with their actions. It was their choice, and so be it. There will be consequences.

Since when are operating costs considered in a revenue calculation?

Funny how they exclude the “wokeness caused the brokeness” factor.

The funny thing is how people are trying to will this into existence when it’s very obviously not the case. The reasons given are about as legit as it gets. Before any of this BLM stuff started, they were predicting huge revenue losses for pretty much the reasons listed.

I mean I get what you are saying but you can't really see a company miss out on 1.5 BILLION and not call it a loss.

Unless the article is mistaking revenue for projected income, it's not a loss, but a miss relative to projections. I'm not trying to split hairs for the sake of it, the fact that they don't know the definitions of the words leads them to make stupid statements like the cost of the bubble affecting "revenues," which makes zero sense. The general reason I'm pointing this out is to draw attention to how non-credible these pencilneck writers are in their defense of the league, and their omission of the issue of politics affecting viewership by casual fans.

Wall Street arguably is important to the US financial infrastructure.

The US taxpayers don’t want to subsidize LeBron buying a new Gulfstream.

What’s funny is everyone claiming that the NBA is the most international of the Big 4, which I am not going to dispute (find it interesting that they have yet to have a single regular season game outside of the US and Canada but that’s another story)

The Bucks just played a game in Paris back in January & the NBA has played dozens of games internationally. The NFL is absolute King in the US , but American Football is an odd curiosity in places like France ,China ,Asia ,Africa ,etc......

Places where the NBA is growing / has a large fan base.

That's not much for a professional sports league. They should increase salaries.

Just like your ilks omission of the unprecedented issue of the NBA Finals going head to head v the NFL/ MLB playoffs & CFB ?

Unlike in June with little competition & no Football in sight.

I believe it’s a combination of all of them, but journalists never mention the political component.

You really want him to respond? He's either serious and that irrational or trolling.

Whatever our sins as country we haven't been guilty of something approaching genocide since the western expansion or the trail of tears.
