No, I think he just didn’t keep his ego in check and I think he treated it like he did the last election debates. I think his advisors told him to debate like the incumbent unlike the first time.

I figured Trump planned to pressure ol joe into flashing out in anger but Chris "Chinese Bank Account" Wallace kept saving Joe's arse.

They underestimated Biden's hop up meds. They thought if you got Joe on full tilt that he would lose complete control and he didn't.

Think he also wanted joe to lose his cool which he’s so prone to do, ironically, joe was far more pissed last night than the first debate it would seem.

He got pissed and Kamala level preachy towards the end

No, I think it was a combination of Trump being too amped up and Chris Wallace being a terrible moderator. I also think it was Trump's strategy to get Joe flustered and have him frick up but then realized the moderators won't ever let that happen so he changed his tune last night

I think the Trump people were really surprised there was debate. I expected it to be cancelled. Trump looked unprepared in #1.

No, in the first debate Trump had to debate Slow Joe and Chris Wallace. Wallace ran a total cluster of a debate. Moderator last night might be a big lefty, but she ran a much better debate. IMO, Trump was more able to attack Joe and not have the moderator directly challenging every point he made.

No I think the strategy was very simple.

Debate 1: Drive a wedge between Biden and his base. Excellent job by getting him to disavow the green new deal and getting to defend fracking.

Debate 2: Let Joe Biden drive the wedge himself . The more he talked the worse he looked. The tactic on oil was brilliant. Make Joe come off the cuff.

Trump was off his game and irritable with early symptoms of the Kung Flu

he is now rested, strong and armed with a lot of interesting info on the Big Guy

No.

The first debate was a shitshow of epic magnitude, and both candidates did almost as horribly as the "moderator".

Trump composed himself better this time and obviously listened to his debate coaching staff.

This was the President Trump that the world needed to see. That said, this was also the Joe Biden that the media and DNC have been trying to hide, that the world needed to see.

Was the first presidential debate just a smoke screen? by hollowpoint
Is it possible that DJT’s strong approach to the first debate was simply another part of the strategy? A ruse to keep Joe from knowing which DJT was going to show at the other debates?

Man, I hope this election cycle brings an end to Chris Wallace and his career with fox. He can go to MSNBC where he belongs. But, take him off sites I visit.

TRUMP won the first debate so I'm not sure how it was a smoke screen.

Pres Trump looked off to me in the first debate. I think he was starting to feel coronavirus or had just learned his test was positive

Yes, I think it's very possible. Likely in fact. Most peoples' gripe about Trump's performance in the first debate was that it was simply a lack of control and command of the situation. His control and command being so much on the other end of the spectrum last night, the good end, it's hard to believe there isn't planned strategy involved.

There's a significant component of "command and control" that can't simply be nullified by debate practice and preparation.

I was thinking last night that Trump team had lowered Biden’s expectations so low that Trump sabotaged first debate to lower his expectations, as well.

Think Trump was suffering from early symptoms of Covid and wasn't feeling good inside so he was agitated easily. After he got his Anitbodies he fricked Covid and when after Biden. His post Covid test run was that bitch at the town hall. He bitch slap her even with her mic turn up higher than his, and even got a biden leaning all aflustered when she came face to face with the "Orange Bastard."

I think Trump lost his cool a bit in the first debate because of the Joe’s constant lies and the hostile treatment from Wallace.
