of Texas song.

About to lose a lot of donations

“Based on (survey responses), we do not have the necessary instrumentation, so we will not participate in Saturday’s game,” Longhorn Band director Scott Hanna said in the message.

Texas President already trying to do some CYA tonight

“In a message Wednesday evening, University President Jay Hartzell said the Longhorn Band was never expected to play at the game this weekend. He said “The Eyes of Texas” has been played at previous games in the season and will continue to be played in the future. “

Can't say I've ever heard it. What does it say that's offensive to these people?

Nothing as far as lyrics. Supposedly it was sung in black face during some kinda shows in the early 1900s.

Also I saw somewhere that Robert E. Lee once told W&L grads that the “Eyes of the South” were upon them and that was the inspiration of the song.

In short, it’s all bullshite.

Bring in alumni band to play and kick those others off their scholarship until you can find new ones, problem solved

The should replace it with something more modern and in touch with the needs of a diverse student base like WAP

We are quickly approaching Orwellian levels of dumbassery.

It’s very convoluted how it is “racist”

It is similar to something Robert E Lee said
It was played at a minstrel show
The sound is like I’ve Been Working On a Railroad

Then somehow mix that all together

Please tell me that is not the TL;DR. I consider myself to be conservative and will lend some credence to grievances that might be considered "offensive" but this seems to be the most stretchiest of the stretches.

Think: I been working on the railroad!

That’s the entire song repeated over and over.

Edited to add.

Calling it racist is equivalent to saying the Mississippi River is racist because it had river boats that carried slaves.

I literally shake when I hear that song now. I can’t wait for Texas to turn blue so we can stop travesties like this from occurring.
