Do you know anybody that was an Atlanta Thrashers fan?

When I was in grade school, I learned team names for all major sports. It helped me with spelling, geography, etc. I was always good at naming each team in each league.
For the life of me, I can’t think of a more forgettable franchise than the Thrashers. They came about when I was going into HS. They lasted 12 years, made the playoffs once, and were swept by the Rangers.
Before I was born, I could see the Cleveland Barons as being forgettable. They were originally the California/Oakland Seals, went to Cleveland for three years, then merged with the Minnesota Stars. Apparently that’s the last pro team to cease operations instead of just relocate.
That said, in modern sports, it’s hard for me to find a team so ‘forgettable’. The Vancouver Grizzlies were shitty and short-lived, but you’ll see their throwback jerseys rocked every now and then. I think the Charlotte Bobcats could fit here as well. I don’t even think their unis are revered.

Winnipeg appreciates the team so much more.

Pretty sure the Florida Panthers don’t actually exist

That’s another team I thought of, but it says they’re still in the NHL
For current teams, I’d say it’s a tossup between them and the Arizona Coyotes.

They had the knights before that.
And for some reason I think the Thrashers had one of the few players with more melanin.

I still rock a thrasher's jersey every now and then when it gets cold enough. Living in Dallas, the only people who have ever recognized it are the Canadian wives of two of my friends

Their first ever pick was Patrik Stefan who was one of the worst #1’s overall
Then the next year they took. Dany Heatley #2 overall he was a good player but killed a teammate in a car crash and asked to be traded.
Not a good start to the franchise.
Kovalchuk is a HOFer and Marian Hossa has some good years there but that’s about it.

I absolutely loved the Thrashers. Actually saved up my lunch money for a couple weeks when we played the Rangers and used it to buy my dad and I tickets to the only 2 playoff games we had. I still have a light blue sweater and a couple scarves plus many many ticket stubs.
We won a 50/50 raffle one night too and when we went to get it they told us it was the smallest winnings in history
I wish they still had a team badly in Atlanta. Live hockey may be one of my favorite sports. On tv, I barely watch.

A classmate in graduate school was from Pittsburgh and was a huge hockey fan. Him and his pharmacist wife had season tickets to the Thrashers and I got to go a few times when she had to work. Was super fun, but I get why they relocated.

I went to a whole mess of Thrashers games when I lived in Atlanta. Also went to a bunch of Knights games, as well.

But that was IHL, correct?

Also the Time Warner deal happened and Ted Turner got pushed out.
The Thrashers were already sold for the first time by Time Warner in 2003.

Correct, and we also had the Flames from 72-80

I actually went to a thrashers game like 15 or so years ago. It was pretty cool.

It’s just weird to me that Atlanta and Houston with a combined population of over 10 million people don’t have an NHL team.

I was and have a few friends that were
I will never forgive the ASG for their handling of the Thrashers. Atlanta was never last in attendance and was as high as 13th so the notion that Atlanta would never support an NHL team is not true
What actually happened was the multiple people involved in the ASG were more interested in either suing each other or trying to invest in the Hawks. They put no effort into ever improving the Thrashers. Hell they even had a chance to sell the Thrashers to an owner that would keep them in Atlanta and they didn't

That franchise never recovered after Heatley’s/Snyder fatal auto accident

My first ever game was the Thrashers against Florida in 2002. I became a fan that day. That division title was as thrilling as the letdown from getting swept by the Rangers in the first round.
