Solid business for a baller. Economy irrelevant when it come to selling firetrucks to the government.

Yes it is. The pumper on a firetruck eventually wears enough that it fails the pressure requirements for certification of the truck. Has nothing to do with how pretty and how well taken care of the truck is. At some point, they must be replaced.

I heard he stared his business off by building his first fire truck for the Central Volunteer Fire Department.

Baw builds them for countries all over the world now.

He actually made a pimped out commemorative fire truck for the NYFD after 9/11. I heard it was badass.

I think the Ferrera guy sold it for a small fortune then opened a new place next door making the actual fire pumps that go into the trucks.

It really seems there are a lot less fires happening. I would assume due to better suppression tech and better building codes that prevent them. Here in Houston, fire trucks are mostly used to block 4 lanes of the highway for a minor 2 car accident. We could find something cheaper that can block and equally excessive number of lanes.

Years ago they were located off Choctaw between Monterrey and N Sherwood. One or two small metal buildings north of the railroad tracks. Basically building one at a time all by hand with simple machine shop tooling.

They now have that massive facility with state of the art machinery. As was said before, fire trucks have a limited life no matter how well they are taken care of, and there are not a lot of manufacturers. They will not take much of a business hit.

In many cities firefighters respond to most 911 EMS calls along with the ambulance crew for the purpose of aiding in gaining access to homes and buildings, and moving incapacitated people to the ambiance. Extracting people from wrecked cars is a regular occurrence. They do a lot more than just figh fires.

Didn't they turn it down or something because it wasn't up to their specs? I think I remember reading that.

Nope. They used it and then sent it to N.O. after Katrina. It has been rebuilt and belongs to Butch Browning's Fire Marshall's office last I heard of it.

The problem F.D.N.Y. had with it is it was too dam fast for them.
