Agreed, just think that the Astros would easily match a 5/$125M offer.
I think he ends up on the Mets.

Jesus... I didn’t realize they’re still paying for pedroia and price.
And $30mil for Sale. Woof.

The bar for players hoping to land any kind of guaranteed money this offseason appears to be quite high; in the eyes of the Houston Astros, left-handed reliever Brooks Raley cleared it.
Raley’s $2 million club option (he’ll make just a $250,000 salary in the minors) for the 2021 season isn’t close to the double-digit price tag that Morton or Hand’s would have cost their clubs, but the specific figure in play here doesn’t feel as important as the fact that Houston was willing to pay Raley in the first place.
quote:
I’m here to tell you Raley has already stood out. Despite only modest velocity — his hardest fastball only sits around 90 mph — he misses bats, with a whiff rate in the 79th percentile of all major leaguers. Raley also produces very, very weak contact; no pitcher in baseball this year recorded a lower average exit velocity than his 81.7 mph.
quote:
If you limit the sample to lefties, Raley stands out even more. No southpaw in baseball has more horizontal movement on his cutter, just one has more slider movement, and just two have more curveball movement.
quote:
A pitcher can make his money by missing bats, or he can make his money generating lots of weak contact. Raley does both, and the Astros thought that was worth $2 million.

Dumpster Aggie was quite the pickup.

I’m ready for baseball season.

I'm ready for a time machine to go back about 40 years in time to live.

With the way things are playing out in GA, it’s easy to see why Reddick was an easy target and Astros whipping boy the last couple of seasons.

You know what, hire Carlos Beltran as manager after Dusty retires next year.
Cheating isn't actually cheating unless you did it in and continue to wear an Astros uniform.

This lawsuit pretty much assures Springer and correa will not sign with the Astro.
Luhnow needs to let it go.

Are you saying the possible money owed in such a lawsuit is the reason the Astros can't/won't sign Springer or Correa?

No, and I hope he gets every penny

No. I’m saying nothing but nasty news will be produced during discovery with this lawsuit. No baseball star will want to be part of this new round of bad publicity.

Ken Rosenthal says the Astros are "trying to work out a deal with Brantley, who is interested in returning."
Posted on 11/9/20 at 11:24 am to Floating Change Up
Nah
Not gonna happen
MLB won't let it
The Yankee factor and just bad business. The owners vs players issue will dominate baseball news
To my knowledge, the Yankees have succeeded in keeping it sealed, no reason to believe this will be any different

He was “the man” in charge of an organization that was used as a tool to save MLB from another sport wide cheating scandal. Whether he “knew” or not is immaterial. He should have fricking known. His argument is the same as a general manager who creates a team that under performs. “Hey, I did my job. I got good talent on the team. It’s not my fault they’ve lost so many games.”
Yeah bud, it’s your fricking fault because you’re the head of the organization. Accountability starts at the top.
I was, and remain a strong supporter of both Luhnow and Hinch as two of the best (or at least better) options for their positions in the sport. But they were both put on notice that they were the heads that would be chopped in any electronic rules violations. They tucked up. And rightfully so, fired for it.

A reasonable short-term deal for Uncle Mike would solve one of 3 major issues. Then they can focus on finding a CF and a closer (Brad Hand please).
Based on his dirt cheap salary, Whit Merrifield should be a target for CF.

Merrifield?
How could we get him?
Didn't realize he was a CF
That dude is a player. Can't imagine they would give him up w/o ransom money
