Would you smoke a 20lb ribeye on a offset or a pellet grill?

I’m tasked with cooking prime rib for my parents 50th today. I’m going to smoke it @ 225 until it gets 120, let rest 30 minutes then sear on a gas grill. We are staying at an airbnb in Hot Springs and the place has a Pit Boss pellet grill. I’m not familiar with pellet grills, but it looks like a nice one. They have a wide variety of hardwood pellets to use. The place also has an Oklahoma Joe offset smoker, which I’m very familiar with and was my original plan until I saw this pellet grill. What would you use? I like the set it and forget option of the pellet grill but can it deliver the flavor of a regular smoker?

Stick with what you know best. Don’t rock the boat.

Smoker is going to get a much better flavor

Pit Boss as long as you have good fresh pellets. Otherwise you won’t be able to keep consistent temps.

I wouldn’t smoke a good cut of meat like that.

That is too expensive of a piece of meat to mess around with.
Do what you know. Plus I hate pellet grills. I’m an egghead so I’m a snob. That being said, if you are just smoking it and searing on a gas grill, you should be fine on either. Pellets are pretty consistent with the temp.

i'm no meat expert but aren't prime rib and ribeye different cuts?
Just thinking that if your parents are expecting prime rib and you give them smoked ribeye, they are going to be disappointed no matter how good you think it is.

I would go with what you are familiar with. Don't want to screw up something like that. Pellet grills work well, but you don't know if the one at the airbnb has any issues. Could drop pellets fine for a while and then get hung up for some reason. Thermostat could be off a little, etc

Reverse searing a whole ribeye via smoker is a fantastic method. I’ve done it several times. You should try it. I’ve just never done it on a pellet grill

Neither. I don’t like smoked ribeyes, but use what you know.

Cooking a whole ribeye roast results in prime rib. When you slice the whole ribeye into steaks and cook them you have ribeye steaks

Go with the Oklahoma Joe's.
Unless you're a chick. Then use the pellet grill.
