Watching LSU vs FL from 1987. Did a little research on Harvey and a Aggie few members on a board mentioned him flipping to LSU at the last minute due to LSU and $$$$. Complete BS by Aggies fans I am sure because $250,000 was mentioned. I know some shady stuff happens in college football but seems like way too much in 1987. Anyone here knew Harvey then? Any idea why he flipped?

$250k in 87 seems high.
But without a doubt we paid the man.

Aggies signed Darren Lewis that year and he was considered to be the best player and running back in texas that year. So Harvey went to LSU so he would get more playing time.

Back in the 80's it was the wild wild west
If you weren't cheating you were most likely last place in your conference.
I would dare say it was most of the SEC and old Big 8 cheating and it's also when players got a lot bigger - ped's.

Rumor states he was walking down the hall to sign, still not completely sure about where but leaning towards Gaggie. Cheerleaders and other folks were singing the Gaggie war hymn, he found it annoying, and said frick it.

Harvey saw a film about the Aggie cheer squad and said "frick that gay shite."

Knew Harvey fairly well but was friends with his brother Darryl. If he ever got paid, neither he nor Darryl ever spoke of it. A couple reasons I remember:

Harvey came to LSU because aTm dissed him by signing another high profile running back.

Darryl was also offered a spot and aTm at the time, was not matching that offer.

Man, he was fun.

Seems like I recall Harvey gaining some weight post-LSU and playing briefly in the NFL as a TE.

No he was drafted I believe by the Chiefs and played a few years was traded maybe to the Raiders. It’s been to long, but I certainly don’t remember him playing tight end.

Given that the 80's were known as Tx A$M's "FedEx years", it's reasonable they would assume they were outbid for a recruit since they were paying everybody.

I remember this. The day after he signed I was flying to Vegas with a layover in Texas. At the newsstands all of the papers had this story on the front page, not of the sports page, but of the newspaper. His reason for signing with LSU - He said he was still undecided when he was walking to his press conference and decided on LSU when he heard all of his goofball classmates singing the Aggie fight song. I don't necessarily believe that, but it was a good story.

Darryl was the man. I remember seeing him on Spring Break on the beasch in a cowboy hat, weanie bikini with a big ole bos constrictor hanging off his shoulders. He was also drunk as hell and just hangin and all the women were hanging around. Dude was a lot of fun.

Didn't he get arrested for speeding 100 mph in a brand new car - 280ZX

Louisiana State Tailback Harvey Williams, arrested for simple battery last weekend, is expected to start against Florida Saturday unless a right hamstring injury precludes Williams from playing. His wife, Lorie, accused him of choking her. Asked Tuesday if the arrest will affect Williams' status, LSU Coach Mike Archer said, "It will not." He did not elaborate.
