Pellet Grills

My buddy had a traeger and loved it so I thought I’d get myself a pellet grill as I was in the market after selling my old green egg to a friend.
So, I purchased a pit boss pro pellet grill. Works great except for having the occasional burnout. Basically the pellets dropping onto a smoldering fire and then it kills the heat and the temp begins to drop.
For those of you with pellet grills do you run into this problem and how do you remedy it? I don’t want to have to clean the ash out after every cook but that seems to work. Is there potentially an issue with my auger/starter?

I had a traeger that did that. I fixed the problem by getting a Rec Tec

My Camp Chef never has burnouts.

Camp chef woodwind here. Thrilled with mine and never have that issue, and love my sidekick with Pizza oven, griddle and grill box attachments.
Definitely the best grill I have ever owned

Can you lower the feed rate on a PB?

I had it happen the first time I used my pit boss. Has not happened since, and that includes some 14+ hour smokes.

Green Mountain Grills are pretty nice.

How is assembly on a Rec Tec? Also, is it pretty easy to get setup and going in terms of the initial startup, app process, etc.
Getting close to pulling the trigger on one.

I have a pit boss. You can control the feed rate to some extent when it is on the smoke setting.

Gotcha. My only experience is with rectec, and didn’t know if it was an option on all pellet grills. I know a really low feed rate can cause a flameout, sometimes.

I have the 590....took maybe an hour to put it together. It was pretty easy.

I have the Rec Tec Bull. Assembled by myself. Had wife help me lean it back up after assembly

I have the 590 as well. I use it a lot. Holds temps well, and plenty of room for my family of 4. I use the smokehouse brand pellets from Sam’s. ~$17 for 40lb bag.

I’ve had it about 3 months so far and I love it. There’s a very small park of me that wishes I had gotten the 700, but the 590 has been plenty big enough for me to smoke on for me family and another family on game day. 5 racks of baby backs, or more with an interior shelf. Could probably easily fit 4 butts, and 2 medium sized briskets.

What pellet feed do y’all recommend on the recteq?
