The one where the waitess with 2 kids come in, price is $67, so she turns away and is leaving when the pharmacist says “wait”. The pharmacist then apparent shows the lady how to download and set up the app and rings up the prescription for something like $12.

Ethically, do all pharmacist’s have an obligation to do this? Also, I don’t get it, if the employee of the pharmacist can do this, then why not just sell her the medication for the discounted price? Does the “do not harm” obligation apply to a Doctor of Pharmacy”?

They have no obligation to discount prescriptions although sometimes they’ll sell expensive generic prescriptions that are generally widely used by people without much money at discounts (subutex is a good example). Pharmacist also have a duty to be able to speak about the medication/side effects/interactions theyll usually offer you the option especially if it’s a first time it’s being filled.

If someone turns away at the idea of $67 they shouldn’t have two kids. Horrible parenting

Yep, but this country has parents of a dozen kids that don't work at all.

I can’t actively do it for you and find the discount. That’s against policy

But we may say “ oh yes it’s not covered in your insurance or the copay is high... you can check if there’s a good rx coupon available online for a better price and you can bring that up and we’ll apply it “

There’s a lot of pharmacists that hate their lives and don’t care but my conscience can’t let people pay out the arse for something when they’re an easily accessible coupon available

The prescribing physicians office should help you with finding the best cost, especially on expensive meds. I was prescribed a pricey med a couple weeks ago, $20 per pill after insurance, the nurse did some digging and found no means tested program that offered $0 copay after coupon with insurance. They got me samples to cover until we got the discount card from the manufacture, it took only a few days to come in. Everything else I take is mostly a $3-$9 copay, except one thing now since Trump meddle with drug prices a few months ago, one went up to $50 per month that was $3 per month.

I guess what I don't understand is if the prescription is $67, but with the goodrx app, you can get it for $8.90, why can't the drug manufacturer sell it for $8.90 to begin with.

What relationship do that have with goodrx to discount prices?

Considering the pharmacist is probably working for a huge corporation like Walgreens they probably don’t give a shite. Assuming they don’t work on commish...

Besides, that’s just a clerk, not a pharmacist. .

Because the pill itself costs practically nothing to make. Once the R&D is done and is now a sunk cost, the drug company wants to sell as many pills as they can at whatever price point they can get anyone to buy it. It is the same reason airlines will sell the exact same seat at wildly different price points based on the type of customer, via apps like Expedia.

This is a complex question but once you answer it, you’ll realize why PBMs are shite

Mine did. I was very happy with her.

Had no idea this existed. My RX is cheaper cash at Walmart than it was with my ins before at an independent pharmacy

That's a tech running the register, the pharmacist is filing scripts in the back or "counseling" the cute single mom in a private area.

So what's Good Rx's angle? Where does their profit come from? I mean, other than havesting personal info via the app.
