Generator safe to put under open air carport with garage door?

My carport has a garage door but it's wide open on two sides. Surely it would be safe for me to put it under the carport and run it there, right? My window unit that I would be using would be roughly 25-30 feet away from where the generator would be placed.
Safe or no?

Detached? Yes. Attached, No. You’ll likely be fine, but there’s potential for exhaust to fill the attic space and carryover to the home.
The generator can get wet. It’s made for it. Just put it outside.

Yes it is an attached carport and the attic door is out there. Damn. I'm glad you mentioned it getting into the attic because I honestly would have never thought about that. I feel so stupid now.

What about an attached carport that has no garage door?

I'd do it if it were me. Maybe pick up a CO detector for $15?

Safe. point the exhaust outward to the open sides. If fumes move toward a/c, plug a fan into the genny to blow them away

You should feel smarter now.

Such an easy solution and the cost is negligible when buying and running a generator

Something to keep in mind is that even if the house isn't hopped up with dangerous levels of co2, you need to be careful when going in the garage to mess with it.

Nope.....put it outside, well away from the eaves and not near your neighbors eaves.. Don’t become a statistic.

Id also chain that thing up depending on where you live so some desperate SOB doesn't haul it off when you arent around.

I park my generator under the eaves of my garage with exhaust facing out with a fairly powerful fan blowing the exhaust out.Seems to be safe and I also feel it helps keep the generator cool.

No way. Put it outside as far away as you can get it.
A family of four died after Laura, the dad being the last to go. Generator was in the garage with doors open.

NEVER under roof of main structure.

This. Way to risky.

This! Why take a chance? You don't get a second one.

Yea I get it now. Even though the carport doesn't have walls on two sides, though? It seems to me like that's wayyy too much ventilation to cause any issues but I guess I'm wrong. I don't want to put it outside in the rain, though, either. Water and electricity don't mix too well last time I checked.

As said get a CO detector. I'd put one in the garage where the generator is and one in your house.
The key to me would be to put it towards the outside of the carport with the exhaust blowing away. Don't have it by your door to your house and where the air is stale. If there is a breeze blowing the air fumes away from your house you will be fine.
This isn't rocket science. I mean if the wind is blowing toward your house and you have it outside its possible the wind would blow the fumes into your eaves.

Try cooking under there and see how long smoke and fumes linger. sure the CO gas is lighter than smoke but I think you'll find you have pockets of air under there that don't get circulated nearly as much as you think.
Think of it like this, would you risk your life and the lives of your family to not buy a $100 extension cord?

You can always pipe your generator exhaust away as well.
