So much wrong in this take. Not saying there aren’t trends, but being a non-believer doesn’t make one a ghoulish fiend. Not believing and supporting Trump aren’t mutually exclusive. I know plenty that are both non-believers and Trump supporters

OP take is incredibly ignorant and narrow. Indicative of someone who lives in a church bubble.

You Bush era neocon Evangelical Bible beaters are going to frick up and turn off the GOP to a large portion of the population again. Ron Paul saved the party from total Destruction. Have you learned nothing?

But they know there is a right and wrong, they just don't want to accept it. IMO, our conscience is the part of God in us that have a conscience. A conscience is not something that can be replaced like other body parts nor can a conscience be dissected for evaluation. It is one of those abstract things in life where scientists can't examine it and make it medically better. Only an outside source can do that.

I've tried this before BHP...the desire to link religion to the right side of politics is so short sighted. There are many of us on this side that are there for reasons OTHER than the belief in a deity. By feeling the need to reject all of us they're just making the tent smaller and forcing us from underneath it at a time when we can't afford to do that.

It was this exact move which forced me towards Libertarians the past three election cycles. The only reason I'm voting Trump this go round is because it's vital. This is coming from guy that's been STRONGLY on the right since I turned 18 in '88.

so you're saying people who don't believe in a deity have no morals? that's ridiculous

I'm saying that those who don't believe in a deity have always argued that there are no absolutes, and thus no right or wrong

You're the second or third one here pretending outrage from what atheists themselves have historically argued for themselves

You trying to weak argument of putting words in others mouths is already tiresome

So which God is the right one? There’s a lot out there, and they’re all different. Just wanna make sure I pick the right one that allows me to vote for Trump.

You say

and literally two lines above that you say

I'm saying that those who don't believe in a deity have always argued that there are no absolutes, and thus no right or wrong

Arguing against absolutes isn’t purely the propensity of atheists.

So the God you were taught of is obviously the only rational, objective basis for morals.

Well, he is the only God, creator of Heaven and Earth...so.....yes, He is.

Spot on my brother.

Straight from the explanations of CS Lewis right there. CS Lewis, who was an Oxford atheists brought to belief in God by JRR Tolkien, when challenged to explain the wonderment of existence.

I dabbed in it for a few years. The common denominator in it for me was nothing matters in the end. It made me depressed and indifferent.

He made a really poor post, and I'm saying that as someone who agrees with his underlying premise, which I think is this:
Those who don't believe in God lack an objective basis for morals. There are plenty of atheists who most of us would describe as "moral" in a general sense. But logically their morality is only their personal opinion, and while they might believe that racism or concentration camps were wrong, they cannot be "wrong" in some absolute sense.

if your moral compass has to come from a belief in a deity, you had no morals to begin with.
