Going to head over tomorrow from Destin since weather not going to be beachy. What’s a cool lunch spot for me and the missus ? TIA. May have the pup with us.

Don't know their situation for the rona but Cowgirl Kitchen is always a good bet.

Bruno’s for pizza. Chanticleer eatery is always good when I go.

How did 30A become the go to place on the gulf?
I went there over 30 years ago. There was not much there. I liked the beach. I think it was called Rosemary or something like that. Had to drive some distance to get to a restaurant,
What flipped the switch?

Destin congestion flipped the switch many years ago. Now 30A is far from deserted.

Seagrove Market. Only doing outdoor seating....they have a tent set up outside. Grouper sandwich.

My favorite restaurant in the area is the Cafe Thirty - A but they are not open for lunch. They open at 4:30 if you want a late lunch.

best lunch spot on 30A is La Crema in rosemary. Go get you a couple orders of en fuego chicken, some lobster mac n cheese and light n layered for dessert. you're welcome.
also, don't waste your money at the perfect pig.

George’s in Alys

You can keep going, on 30A through Rosemary, then just circle back around on 98.
Unless you’ll be in an SUV and want to do some off-road trails, then back to 395.

Seaside development and it being the location where they filmed The Truman Show.
My aunt bought a house in Blue Mt in the late 90's and that was the first time we went. You had to drive into Destin for a grocery store, though there were a couple of general stores for basic things. I *think* Red Bar was open then, but not sure. Maybe Goatfeathers was too. There were only a few of restaurants on that whole strip.

Have you seen the beaches and water? The only thing not to like is the congestion, the water and the beaches are absolutely unmatched in the United States.
Its busy now certainly. But once you can sit on the nice white sand and see your kid swimming under water compared to a darker water and rougher beach its unmatched.
There's other nice places, but 30A did a good (maybe not great) job of developing properly.
They are tearing down $4 mil homes on the water to build $12 mil homes in some places.
ETA: As far as lunch goes I still really like Seaside. Multiple spots to choose from and very casual. I haven't been lately but grabbing a drink and app on the deck at Bud and Alley's is hard to beat for the view and people watching.

I wouldn’t go that far. You would have to add in more qualifiers

I had lunch a few weeks ago at the Great Southern Cafe a few weeks ago and it was incredible.

I went in the 1980s.
I liked it.
It seems to have changed dramatically since that time. I was not “high end” at that time. Just some rental house and really nice sand and water.

Seaside around that time (late 1980s):
Seaside today:
Just a little bit different.

Rosemary Beach wasn't begun until 1995

And there wasn't much to it until much later than 1995.
I also don't recall any informal use of "Rosemary Beach" before the development began, either.

I don't recall hearing any reference to Rosemary Beach until George's opened. Technically that's Alys Beach, but seemed everyone called it Rosemary around that time. Maybe around 2008 or 2009? I know there wasn't a whole lot down there around that time. Seems like it's exploded within the last 10 years.
