Hung an American flag from my truck kayak racks the other day.

When I got pulled in from work today, my black neighbored ask
“What’s with the flag? What’s it represent?”
I responded “America”
He asked “Is that all?”

Since when did an American flag start to represent anything besides America and freedom?

Yup here in Portland if you have an American flag on your house or truck it's basically like having a Trump flag.

Nothing bad happens (yet) but we're likely headed that way.

If Trump wins reelection I guarantee you will start seeing news stories about people with American flags having their house vandalized in cities like LA or Portland or Seattle or Minny.

Tell your black neighbor that if he's not happy with his current circumstances, he's free to relocate to Ghana or the Congo and see how that works out.

When he said “is that all?” you should have said you also like to show your support for your President by flying the flag.

My reply would have been:

Him: No

Me: Must have not been any of your fricking business then.

It’s funny, before June, this guy and I used to shoot the shite pretty often when we saw each other outside. Ever since George Floyd, he doesn’t seem to want to speak to me much.

Since coddled Kapernick decided it was racist. Sounds like your neighbor had been re-educated.

OP, this is a great opportunity for you to trigger your neighbor badly. You need to have the national anthem playing on loop from your porch and hang as many flags as you can.

Hell, paint the dog red, white, and blue.

Respond with the truth... "Nationalism".

That should give him a good case of the red arse.

I have said this many times... Since Kaepernick. The Flag is now being viewed as a symbol of Oppression.

Thanks Kaepernick.. For all that you did. You really Sacrificed a lot..

So living in a progressive town I dont see many American flags on houses. If I do...I assume they are A Trump supporter or at the very least an independent voter.

It is sad.

I teach some online classes and I purposely set up my zoom background with an American Flag I have in my house. I am anticipating someone to get triggered over that at some point or question it. I would love to have that discussion.

That is my go around. Cant put up MAGA signs or wear MAGA gear for the hassle...but I will wear and display the Stars and Stripes.
