many admin/students in the Big10 certainly do

and this doesn't end in college. why you see that arrogance in industries filled with Big10 grads (like major media)

welcome to SFPs arguments of the early to mid-00s

For those who care, the ACC is by far has the highest ranked academic institutions, with 8 of its teams in the top 50 national universities according to USWR. But since most of these institutions are located in the South, it doesn’t count.

People from the north generally think they’re morally superior than people from the south

Not morally superior, but these are among the most well-funded public research universities in the world, so there are plenty of pompous douche bags (mostly from Michigan).

I think historically there was much more a stigma than there is now, both with Big Ten fans being snotty and SEC fans being hicks.

In reality, those 2 conferences get along very well with each other, and why you can hear countless stories of when teams get together for big bowl games about how the fans are awesome to hang out with and drink with.

For example, I went to the LSU bar in Dallas last season for the Bama game and my friend and I just talked college football for 4 hours and cheered against Bama. Both wearing OSU stuff and there were some Auburn fans there too; everyone just having a great time on a college saturday.

So yea, I think 75 years ago this existed and some still stick with that, but as an OSU fan, I never feel like I am superior to anyone else but maybe that's just me

Southerners and Midwesterners have a lot more in common than each group thinks. Both are generally nice, hospitable people with strong work ethics. There are a lot of shared values in both groups.

The arrogance comes mostly from Michigan grads.

That is for sure. I have a lot of Michigan alum friends of course but there's also a good portion that are snobby.

Incredibly great school, no doubt, but it does flaunt itself a lot.

This.

You guys would love Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, even Illinois. Big Ten West country is full of down to earth country folk. Most of us are farm boys, after all.

I don't venture far enough East very often to comment on some of the others but people are people everywhere you go. I've met great people barhopping in Boston, Atlanta, Oregon, Chicago, and even down in Baton Rouge.

There is a poster a little after you that basically expresses and explains this sentiment too.

Honestly it seems like it’s much more from the Michigan fans and from the journalism grads of all schools.

Every Midwesterner I’ve met has been a down to earth hard working individual, so completely from my own very limited experience this is how I view people from the Midwest.

No. But ask a Michigan fan and they'll tell you differently.

They really think Rashaan Gary went there for free despite turning down $300k from another school.

Midwesterners are great people.. almost too nice imo, to the point of being docile. Southerners are a little more hot blooded

I made that point yesterday. The ACC is a step above the other P5s. The Big Ten is not special academically.

Yea Michigan fans are easy to hate and it's not just me being an OSU grad saying that

I went to Ann Arbor in 2007 for the game. Most of the stuff was friendly jeering which is to be expected when you are 22 years old wearing the other teams colors. One drunk Michigan student came up to me, patted me on the shoulder and said "you may win the football game today, but you'll be pumping my gas in 10 years". I told him I was working at an investment bank in Manhattan at the time and he was legit surprised and exclaimed "You have a real job?!?"

It was a very eye opening exchange for me. I didn't grow up in the rivalry and that was my first "behind enemy lines" experience of it

They're morally superior when it comes to raping people.

The Big 10 in my mind is synonymous with child sexual abuse. So no they are not morally superior.

I know the Pac-12 thinks they're morally superior. Buddy of mine from Louisiana moved to Seattle a couple years ago, and was talking to a couple UDub grads. He said he was from LA and graduated from LSU and they were all basically like "Oh, so you're a racist?"
