Thoughts regarding Chase

A few keys observables
-Who is the last receiver taken in the Top 5 Of the NFL draft?
-Starting 2019 Justin Jefferson was Burrow’s top receiver from 2018
-Before Terrace Marshall got injured in 2019 he was THE LEADING receiver early last year.
My point, taking a year off football without being an elite lineman (Like a Bosa is a risky move).
Not saying if Chase were my kid, I wouldn’t sit him out but he is not a shoe in for Top 5 pick. Very rarely are receivers top 5.

Literally every draft expert has him in the top 5.. and he would have been the first WR taken this year if he were eligible

Why do you care so much. He gone. get over it. we have more than enough weapons to win it all this year, WR i'm not the slightest bit worried about

Then why would playing matter?

Unless 2/3rds of the other top WR prospects are also not playing.

And if he’s picked 12th, will it really make a huge difference long term? The second contract is the big one.

Look at the list of CB's he abused last year that were taken in the 1st-2nd round of the NFL Draft last season.
Add in the videos LSU released of him beating Stingley(which most consider a Top 10 pick in his draft).
Chase is ready. He was physically ready last year.

I see no reason for him to come back
-he can't possibly have a better season than last year
-new qb
-hard not to leave when you went 15-0
-won biletnikoff (sp?)
I would say preparing for combine and staying healthy is the smartest move he could make. The money he will sign for makes staying injury free his number 1 priority

Chase has absolutely nothing left to accomplish at the collegiate level. He’ll represent LSU very well in the NFL.
The only thing I don’t like is he didn’t opt out a few weeks sooner.

Well the only thing I didn't like is that he quit the team. Just glad he never quit on his routes like he did on LSU.

He’s definitely not going to hurt his draft stock by sitting out. The tape of him against elite competition already exists. There’s nothing more he needs to do to prove he should be a top 5 pick next year.

I agree, leaving is somewhat of a risk. Out of sight. Out if mind.
Plus some teams may hold it against him.
But it does keep him free from injury,

You have valid observations - The biggest point being it is rare that a WR is taken in the Top 5 picks (2017 had a few in the Top 10 - 5th-Corey Davis/7th-Mike Williams/10th-John Ross) We know how these picks are working out LOL. 2015 - Amari Cooper at 4th, not bad. 2014 - 4th-Sammy Watkins/7th-Mike Evans/12th-OBJ - Not bad. 2012 - 5th Justin Blackmon LMAO. Best early draft picks in recent memory - 2011 - 4th AJ Green and 6th Julio Jones. I have a feeling Chase will be an impact player like these two in 2011.
Regardless he will be the first WR taken in the 2021 draft and is one of the best WR prospects seen in a long time. A lot of it depends on what teams are picking in the Top 5 and what their needs are; or are they a team that takes best available.
I will leave you with this - When is the last time a WR went up against a group like this in one season and torched them all:
- C.J. Henderson - 2020 9th overall pick
- A.J. Terrell - 2020 16th overall pick
- Noah Igbinoghene - 2020 30th overall pick (I'm cannot remember how much Noah covered Chase in this game and Chase went for 8 - 123 - 0 TDs. Not quite the stats he put on C.J. and A.J. but still good)
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST
- Trevon Diggs - 2020 51st overall pick (I will never forget that first touchdown Chase scored - It was the moment I realized LSU was going to put it on Bama)
Side Note: Cameron Dantzler had a decent game against Chase - 5 - 48 - 1 TD. One game though.
For these reasons I'd take him in the Top 10, regardless of positional need. He is once in a decade type prospect at WR.

Literally no experts had Burrow as a first round pick, let alone #1 overall, prior to last season. Point being, there is always the possibility another WR has a big year this season. Particularly in light of the fact that Chase's physical attributes (speed/size) may not necessarily be elite from a pure measurements standpoint. Plus, WR isn't necessarily a premium draft position like QB, DE/OLB, CB, left tackle. Need could push those guys ahead of Chase.
That's not to say he's "wrong" for opting out (It's hard to imagine his "stock" could get much higher after last season). But it is no guarantee he is a top 5 pick after sitting out this season.

He owed LSU or the “team” nothing. It wasn’t a job, it was an extracurricular college activity. He was critical in bringing LSU a National Championship last year. He’s done enough for LSU. Now it’s time for him to take care of himself and his family.

Being in the top 5 doesn’t mean you’re a top 5 pick. Most receivers aren’t drafted that high. Depends on which team at that spots needs a receiver that bad which is why they usually fall a few spots.

Think worst thing that happens to him he drops in the first round. If that’s all that happens to him he made a good choice. He just needs to kill it at the combine and teams know what he does on the field.

If you wanna make a case for Chase to sit out.....all you have to do is look at Grant Delpit

Yes, it would make a huge difference! $30 million for the fifth pick versus $16 million for the 12th. There is no guarantee of a second contract, either. A simple injury could reduce his speed and make him run of the mill. The Marxist protests could reduce league revenues so much that player salaries tumble.

I would argue that his chances of dropping in the draft by playing this year due to injury or (less likely) poor performance are higher than his chances of dropping from sitting out a year. And the risk for a catastrophic fall from major injury is dramatically higher. I don’t think NFL teams will care as long as he trains hard this year and doesn’t get into trouble
