Primo or KJ.

BGE is pretty outdated and KJ has cool accessories with an updated design.

Primo has the best grill space.

I have a Sam's club variant. Looks like the bge my neighbor has in every way only it was 50% of the price! Only mine is blue not green. Not sure if they still sell them but worth a look.

BGE

The knock offs aren’t nearly as strong. Ducky’s Pools in Metairie behind Lowes has a big selection of BGE accessories.

I’ve got a primo too. The only mistake I’ve made is not getting the XL oval. I got a L round and it would be nice to have gotten the bigger one from the start.

“Mine does this just like a BGE.” “Mine is better than a BGE.” The benchmark everyone compares to is the BGE. Why not? They’ve been the standard for a very long time.

I am more than happy with mine. Grill or smoke on it weekly for years.

I bought a Vision from Sams about 5 years ago and for the most part I’ve been happy. Knowing how much I like cooking on a kamado, I wouldn’t blink at purchasing a higher quality like a BGE. I’ve had to make several tweaks and mods to the Vision to get it right.

The Vision and BGE (or other higher end) aren’t equal in quality.

I will have 2 extra Primo XLs for under list price once my order is processed and shipped. right now they are in the middle of moving plants (in America) so they are down at this exact point. nolagt3 at gmail

I have 2 Primo XLs and love them. No experience with KJ but they are popular. Primo is maid in the US KJ is imported...and taking for ever as well mind you.

You can't really go wrong with BGE or KJ. NolaGT is the man if you go the KJ route. I have a large BGE and am extremely happy with it. Stine had the large BGE with nest and conveggtor for $999 awhile back.

Made the change from Traeger (trash) to BGE about 10 months ago and couldn't be happier. Absolutely love mine. Never did much smoking on the egg until recently when I got the Egg Genius and it's a game changer. Can't recommend it enough!

Almost like the Toyota Tundra in a way that it hasn't changed much, but it just works. I'm happy with my XL after about a year of heavy use.

OP - $1000 isn't much of a deal. They can be had for $7-800 from what I've seen. My XL was about $1200 w/nest, convEGGtor, assembly and delivery. The XL is much bigger than the large and I wouldn't go smaller in my opinion.
