Berry has already said he's against moving down. They want to continue momentum forward and do what they can to get ULM up to speed with the rest of the Sun Belt. Moving down would admit failure and be a "slap in the face" to those who worked so hard to get ULM to where they are.

This is what was said when asked about athletics in his interview FWIW.

He's right. Going down would do them no good, because to be honest, they dont have upper tier FBS budget or facilities.

They showed a few years ago that they could get a roster together to make some noise in the Sun Belt, and if they could get some defensive talent, they could make a run at App State from time to time.

There's not reason that they shouldnt be playing in bowl games at least every other year except money and talent. It's his job to get more money and I hope he does well.

With that said, I'm looking forward to the Dawgs kicking the ever loving crap out of the University of Lower Mentality Chickenhawks on November 21st.

He was my advisor waaaaaaaaaay back in the day when I was a young, new CIS major. He was dept head when I went back years later and he helped our class sort out an issue with an unreasonable Marketing prof.

He's always been a sharp guy, this bodes extremely well for ULM!

Believe it or not but it would cost too much money for ULM to move down to FCS, at least that’s what Adam Hunsucker told me one time. I think they can find a way to compete for a Sun Belt Championship, just need a president who is committed to athletics. Haven’t had that since they moved up to FBS. Also have very good football and baseball staffs right now, probably the 2 most popular programs at ULM and for people in Monroe/WM. Future for ULM athletics sure looks a whole lot brighter right now

Lol! I don't care who you are....that’s some funny shat right there!
*If everyone is honest, the only way ULM becomes stronger....is for it to be merged INTO LaTech. There’s only a couple of decent programs worth a damn in Monroe anyway...like the Pharmacy school, Nursing.
Current ulm campus would be good satellite.

As a native of Monroe, the only time locals really give a rats arse about ULM is when they are winning. Other than that, it is LSU, all the time. They might get some sniffs, but overall, ULM is an afterthought. I know that 2012 season when ULM pulled an upset over Arkie and damn near beat Auburn at Jordan Haaare the next week and then made it to an almost hook up with LA Tech in the Independence Bowl, Monroe people kinda got on the bandwagon and I believe fan support and school enrollment went way up that following Spring and Fall.

With ULM, it is going to have to be cart in front of the horse. The program is going to have to spend before they get success. Unfortunately before this guy getting the job, that approach has been frowned upon.

I don’t agree with dropping down... Viator working on the problem now... just going take time...

The problem I’m referring to is NLU/ULM refusing to recruit Monroe kids for years... past coaches from out of state totally ignored the local area... The three city schools (Carroll, Neville, Wossman), four parish schools (WM, WO, Sterlington, Richwood), the privates (St. Fred’s, River Oaks, OCS) plus the surrounding parishes produce plenty of talent... obviously the 5, 4 and most 3 stars not choosing ULM... but you gotta recruit the hell out of the rest... local interest in familiar players would have drove attendance up...

Like I said Viator working on it ...a Monroe or surrounding area native as head coach would be better... but I won’t complain about Viator

I have said this for years. Viator is finally doing this. Praise Baby Jesus. Former coaching staffs were on the hook so bad to win, they put all their eggs in Juco players and guys they thought could win at the moment. Getting local talent and building them up has been a foreign concept in Monroe until now.

I really think that ULM should move down but it is to far into the game for that to be realistic now. The money games that support the rest of the athletic department and the fact that many would have to admit failure for moving up will ever keep this from happening.

What annoys me about it is that we were "right there" with having a championship team when Lawson sold everyone on the 1A move. It was waaaaaaaaaaay too early for that and even now athletics are still trying to recover from it.

That's an outrageous statement from a tech fan who sits right beside ulm in that lower tier of facilities.

Uhhh, it’s not an outrageous statement at all! GTFO with that nonsense!!
Have you actually been to a Monroe Campus football game in the past 30 years. Prob not, cause you care more about LSU. Let’s just compare the athletic facilities of the two schools for me? Just in the last 5 years Tech has built the Davison end zone facility & more recently fantastic new skybox suites. That’s just football. Tech DOES have one of the lowest athletic budgets in CUSA proving we do a helluva lot more with less.

Aillet and the Davison complex looks like the Taj Mahal compared to Malone.

You’re a mental midget. Proves that you haven’t stepped foot in The Joe or worst yet, your alma maters stadium in years. Pathetic!

I’m a huge ULM homer but this statement just isn’t accurate. Malone stadium is bad and Fant is worse.
