All eviction hearings in New Orleans over non-payment of rent will be put on hold immediately, pursuant to an order issued Wednesday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, court officials said Thursday.

The announcement from 1st and 2nd city courts, through spokesman Walt Pierce, says the CDC order is expected to become effective Friday, but that the court's action takes effect immediately.

The CDC order says that landlords are "prohibited from evicting a 'covered person' from any residential property" for non-payment of rent through the end of the year.

To be eligible, tenants must satisfy certain conditions. For instance, they must have income of less than $99,000. They must stipulate that they have made efforts to obtain all available government assistance for rent or housing, and that they have suffered a substantial loss in income during the pandemic.

So basically everyone.

It's time to burn this motherfricker down.

Time for landlords to check their insurance premiums are paid and to off the books hire the worst unlicensed electrician they can find. And don't forget to store some flammables near the gas water heater.

The government can only spend your money until it runs out, then they move on to the next guy.

Class action suits will run rampant for the next 5 years due to government handling of covid. This one will have legs.

Some landlords need to litigate this and appeal it through the system.

Yea it’s gonna blow when the landlords lose their rental property to the bank with no rent coming in and then the bank evicts the worthless tenants anyway

Latoya needs to go - New Orleans is a mess - although it has been for a while

Almost 40% of New Orleans rents

Rents are high - too high - a person has to make $22/hour to make the average rent in New Orleans - the average salary is $12/hour - this what happens when out of town ppl take over

Whenever I see numbers in that neighborhood attached to program cutoffs, it really makes me think we're very close to the end game of democracy, in which 50.00001% of the people vote to take everything away from the other 49.99999%

We're not talking about screwing the wealthy here. $99,000 per year is really just a nice, middle-class wage.
