I have been playing regular guitar for a few years. I am good at open chords, barre chords, some picking and what not.. I basically taught myself, so I’m not music smart..
My good friend is in a band and has been playing bass forever.. I was in an accident and have been out of work and he bought me a bass over to play. Where is a good place as far as you tube goes to find some decent lessons. Thanks

Its relatively easy, I taught myself with zero knowledge of anything about the bass just by playing along with other music.

Yes, play along with music and ...

Become one with the kick drum. I'll say it again, become one with the kick drum. That's what sets bassists and people who play bass apart.

I like this guy's videos. It seems his lessons are primarily for beginner to intermediate players. He seems to be a great player but doesn't throw too much music theory at you. Plus, in most videos he is playing a Squier Bass, something similar to what most beginners to intermediates might be playing. The vids are fun, informative and pretty straightforward.

Stay to the rear and side of the stage so the focus is on the real musicians.

Cute.
Tell that to Chris Squire, John Paul Jones, and Geddy Lee.
Among others.

If a band has a bad/mediocre bassist, you’ll know immediately.

As a confirmed bassist myself, this cartoon pretty much sums it up:

In actual response to the OP, my best advice is to visit this site and sign up (it's free, although you can pay for additional priveleges):

TalkBass

Tons of great info on gear, technique, and lots of recommendations for on-line lessons.

Think of it as a TigerDroppings for bass players
