Shoes get left in the sunroom where we come in.

I basically walk to and from my front door to my master closet and that's it. I'm not a shoe nazi, but it's for sure pretty gross when you consider where the average shoe has been.
Hardwood and tile is not a big deal IMO, as it's easy to clean. Shoes on carpet is pretty disgusting tho. Think of all the gum, piss, mud and shite that's getting squished into those carpet fibers.
I will however be a nazi when it comes to my kids play mat. I have young kids that are still prone to roll around on the mat and it's not too uncommon for them to lick or eat something off their mat either. My dad just goes trampling over their mat in muddy shoes the other day and I was like wtf man? Did it not occur to you your grandsons play on this thing. Would it kill you to walk 2 extra steps to go around it?

Also, side topic, shoes on couch is absolutely unacceptable. If it's possible my face can come into contact with it, then it should be a shoe-free zone.

My wife is Asian. That shite comes off the second I step in my house.

For family members, shoes are worn inside or you can walk around without them. Guests leave the shoes on.

Take them off more as a matter of comfort than anything else. Not sure I would ever ask someone to take their shoes off when coming in my house.

I have hardwood floors and a maid.

I tend to leave mine on for a bit until my wife gets on my arse about it.

Why is it controversial? Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.
We have 2 dogs, so wearing shoes doesn't make a difference cleanliness wise.

Shoes off. No question. That shite is disgusting. I don’t make company take them off, but I cringe every time they walk on my rugs.

If your woman is Japanese, you take them off.

Shoes are for the weak and feeble.

Grass cutting shoes stay in garage.
Regular shoes I wear to work, I take off in my closet. Thankfully we don’t have carpet anywhere in the house. Any dirt gets sucked up by the roomba

I do not keep an Asian household, so no, I wear my damn shoes inside

I generally am barefoot in my house but I don't consciously take shoes off before coming inside. I come in, go into the bedroom and take them off.

I believe in black widows.

I keep my shoes on like a damn adult should. Taking your shoes off is for kids
