Am I the only one who get frustrated that we took Hayes last year instead of trading back and possibly landing Michael Porter Jr.?

Also, we were one pick away from pairing AD and Dame, but instead we got Austin Rivers. That ruins my day every time I think about it.

I remember being young and naive and excited about who we'd draft the year after our playoff run, only to see us trade it for cash

Porter Jr was in the previous years draft. His rookie year was essentially a redshirt.

It was four picks away. You can blame Rick Adleman and the TWolves for deciding to try and win for the one year we had their pick.

We could of had Andre Drummond instead of Rivers as well, he was picked right before Rivers - I think at the time, Drummond was the fan pick sitting there.

Paul George did get picked as well 1 spot ahead of us in the 2010 draft - we ended trading the pick anyway.

Yeah, I mean... I’m not really searching for credibility. I’m just a casual fan that for some reason have always equally enjoyed the off season / free agency / draft aspect of the NBA. I think it’s genius how they market this stuff out to keep eyes on the nba year round. Just wanted to discuss what could have been with some fellow pelican fans.

you didn't search anything it seems.
Hayes and MPJ weren't in the same draft.

You could at least do a modicum of fact checking before you start a lament thread

What we should've done was keep the 4th pick, take Rui Hachimura and re-sign Christian Wood.

i would have liked to seen us make that pick and it be Hunter or Culver. Both guys were good defenders in college and it would have been nice for them to work with Jrue on that side of the ball. I trust our coaching to get them to be good 3 point shooters. And there's your 3 and D wing.

I'm still very optimistic about Hayes and NAW though, and looking forward to what Didi can do.
I really wish we would have tried to pick up Naz Reid as an undrafted guy.

A defensive wing is certainly needed. Kenny Hustles injury, inconsistencies in his scoring and shooting, led to a disappearance when his tenacity could’ve been utilized.

Doesn't matter, that's not his choice.

We valued him incorrectly, we didn't think he was as good as he is.

There's little to no chance we release him if we knew he'd have the type of season he had. That would have been a valuable piece for this team this season.

I believe his unhappiness was with the prospect of very little minutes, but again, had we appraised his value properly, we would have had an ample amount of minutes allotted for him.

Not a huge deal, he's not moving the needle in a big way, but he's a guy that belongs in a rotation, and we did not value him as a rotation guy.

Of course not, but how realistic is that?

I bet if the Pelicans didn’t force him to play in the summer league he would have been more patient with the team. They basically insinuated that he was on a “try out” basis. And after what he showed the season prior, that probably rubbed him the wrong way.

While that’s true, Wood would’ve been a scale tipper in this rotation.

Giving the bench units just enough more to not relinquish leads. Especially in that window of healthy and fit players.

A bench unit with Reddick, Moore and Woods would give you plenty of scoring ability. It would be a question of defensive execution.

At the time, it seemed like we prioritized keeping Kenny Hustle around. We also didn’t anticipate Zion not being available for a that long. It didn’t seem like we really needed much front court depth initially.
