My boat shoes are still in great condition after a few years, but they smell like a dead body. I have tried every spray from A&H shoe refresher to Lysol to Febreze. I have tried inserts, to no avail. This is like when Jerry had to sell his car because he couldn't get the BO out of it.

Any suggestions?

Your only chance is to toss them in the washing machine.

Wash on delicate cycle. Sun dry and air out a couple days.

Set your washing machine to delicate and wash them. Don't put them in the dryer, just let them air dry with loosely crumpled newspaper shoved inside.

Washing machine and put them near bottom of refrigerator to dry out with inside of shoe facing the fridge.

Get some activated charcoal bags. They work wonders. That and silica together in small sacks is what I use and it will get any foot stench out.

Tell your wife to wear them. They’ll smell like roses afterwards. Girl feet don’t stink.

Take out shoe insoles, place them in a gallon bag with borax, shake up, let sit for a day and place in sunlight to air out for a few days after. Do the same thing with the shoes. A little borax goes a long way - think a few teaspoons per shoe max.

Don't let pets get anywhere near borax powder btw.

It is simple. Freeze them. But them in a bag and leave them in the freezer for 4-5 days. You may need to pull the insoles and wash them well first especially if they are shoes you wear with no socks. It works better than any other option.

ETA it works best and quickest if the shoes are completely dry when put in the freezer.

put them in the freezer. Temps will kill the odor causing bacteria and then invest in some quality no show socks.
