Household freezers don’t kill bacteria. It’s an urban legend. It would have to reach 80 below zero to kill all bacteria.

This is correct, a freezer that doesn't get but a few degrees below zero won't kill MOST of the bacteria it will only go dormant, but it does kill a large portion of fungi which is also an issue with stink. Killing all the bacteria would require getting a chemical that kills them in every pore of the shoe which generally isn't feasible or baking them which isn't good for shoe longevity.

Freezing works for the smell period, I have done it for years but it isn't a long term solution because even if you did kill every fungus and bacteria you just build the colonies back up when you wear the shoe. So you have to freeze them on a regular basis depending on how stinky your feet make them.

You can prolong the effect by heating them before/after freezing them which is less hospitable to the bacteria and fully dries the shoe. The simplest way to do this is in a dryer on high. If your dryer doesn't have a rack to set the shoes on and they have laces just tie the laces together and shout them in the door to hold the shoes up and against the door so they don't bang around and/or knock the door open.

No.
All you have to do is rub your arsehole with them.
Then they will smell like arsehole instead of feet.

100% this. Bag 'em up in a few grocery bags first to placate your SO. Works overnight but a few nights is best.

I usually sneak them in before bed then grab them in the AM while I make coffee and call our Euro offices and she suspects nothing.

Academy, in the shoe department, sells an aerosol can called fresh fogger. Works well.
