Scientist says population immunity is about 20 percent if social distance and wear masks

Great to hear. We have to be getting close if true
“Assuming a large majority of infections leave enough immunity to be protected (which I believe to be the case, though correlates of protection are still being worked out), population immunity of 20% will have real impact if societal behavior has already reduced Rt to ~1.2. “

This is why I don’t understand why everyone is so obsessed with a vaccine.

Because you can’t make billions off herd immunity???

The scientific community lost all credibility when it said protests were essential.

I don’t necessarily believe it but all the pharma companies have been saying they’d release a vaccine at cost.

This comment is not directed at anyone here.
I just wish the 4 mile wide asteroid would go ahead and hit us instead of Jupiter to end all of the "It only kills old folks" and "I'm healthy so I ain't wearing no damn mask" stuff.
Something sort of peaceful about getting wiped out by an asteroid instead of a long time to kill you virus.

Because they view it as an absolute protection.
And, they don't have to do anything.

But you might have to wear mask and social distance till the end of time... or til nov 4
Posted on 8/8/20 at 10:55 am to beaverfever
Because this relies on hitting 20% AND societal behavior and society has not been behaving.

Obsessed with a vaccine
The vaccine will be necessary for international travel/business (including all of the companies that engage in it) to get back up to normal.
The world is still pretty panicked, and travel bans and quarantines on US citizens are likely to be in place for a while and may require a vaccine to get out of. Two week quarantines drop international business to a halt.
While politicians can’t talk about it without upsetting Karen, our approach has mirrored a slow-crawl to herd immunity than a full on suppression. With the exception of Sweden, most of the West would be in a full-on panic at levels that the US is at least attempting to operate an economy at.

And if y’all would just stay at home and wear your mask immunity would be 100% because nobody would catch it
I’ve been ordering my groceries online from Walmart since March, I put a plexiglass barrier on my front door and I always spray the delivery boy with Lysol and quarantine the groceries for two weeks. All it takes is common sense choices and we can flatten this virus!

Doesn't mention T-Cell immunity which doesn't show up in antibody test

Well if you believe in stats old people are way more likely to die and healthy people aren’t at much of a risk.

And protest includes hand to hand combat, obviously.

Because a vaccine can be mandated which means more control over your life by the Chinese Flu True Believers and statists. Herd immunity reeks of too much common sense and personal responsibility for those types.
