I remember this. Friends father was an ATC but he was a supervisor and couldn’t be in the Union. So he wasn’t fired. Dude made unreal bank working double and triple time OT until the whole thing resolved.

I've read that the Russians were paying very close attention to how Reagan handled this crisis. Would he stick to his guns, and fire a large swath of controllers, or would he knuckle under and give in?

His response would show the Russians just who they were dealing with.

My dad was one of the controllers that was fired.

He still loved Reagan regardless and happily voted for him again.

This was the first time I realized the news was fake (biased). They so much wanted some/any air disaster blood on his hands that they were gleefully predicting it hourly.
