Fauci:

quote:

Dr. Fauci explains why the U.S. has continued to see a surge in cases while European countries have seen a sharp decrease. He says most European countries shut their economy by 95%, while functionally the U.S. only shut its economy down by 50%.

Twitter

Trump:
quote:

Wrong! We have more cases because we have tested far more than any other country, 60,000,000. If we tested less, there would be less cases. How did Italy, France & Spain do? Now Europe sadly has flare ups. Most of our governors worked hard & smart. We will come back STRONG!

Twitter

Fauci literally wanted us/wants us to shut down the entire fricking country. That is now confirmed.

He's insane. Regardless of the whiplash trump should dump Fauci today.

His comments on yesterday to Jordan on dodging the protest question confirms he's purely making political assessments in his decisions.

Why do you think Trump won't fire Fauci and appoint Stella Immanuel or someone who's more aligned with his views on HCQ prophylaxis?

HCQ just seems like a silly slap fight in the background of the actual brawl taking place.

Fauci is objectively completely political and partisan in his approach to this fiasco.

That's true about HCQ. The big fight is having a coordinated national effort vs. running against the medical establishment, populist-kayfabe style. Trump picks fights with technocrats to run against them because it's eternally about the politics of the common wisdom of the good people vs. the corrupt scheming of the evil elites. Gotta have a foil.

Fauci is beginning to sound like Biden: lost in the sauce.

I still get a laugh out of remembering how Jim Jordan body slammed the little geek pseudointellectual.

Lemme guess:

-Be moar serious about it

-Moar testing

-Wear masks moar

That about sum up the referenced "coordinated national effort"?

*All due respect....I'm not much on passive aggressive internet message board conduct. Although I may have slipped up there. I come in peace.

That's how other countries are minimizing cases. Trump doesn't seem to be interested in what's working elsewhere.

Well I think the foil is China...

If you go watch Scalise questions to Fauci you'll see trump listened to all of his recs early on. Especially on the travel. And trumps been pretty damn receptive of the overall medical/scientist community on measures.

The only thing he didn't do was implement universal measures and I as a conservative appreciate. (We will differ here)

Trump is 100% right on opening schools and his cdc is fully supportive of that. See his testimony from yesterday. Fauci even told rand Paul in a hearing last month that he believe schools should open in person as well.

I think the biggest thing you're seeing now is exactly the ultimate fight. Fauci wants to be shutdown completely for an extended time, trump doesn't.

Watching the trump portnoy interview highlighted that. This link I provided of Fauci confirmed it.

Which country, exactly, should we model ourselves after in regards to responding to this? Is your answer just, "other countries?"

I don't know man. From my understanding the countries that have had marked success (in fits and starts) have achieved it through significant costs of human and privacy rights. Programs we're just simply not accepting of in our country.

I'm just having a hard time conceptualizing what sea changes Trump could institute that will be considered "Wow, he truly is taking it much more seriously now." And also I can't figure out what more he is supposed to be doing regarding mask wearing. He's never been against it, to the contrary has promoted it. I guess just not to some folks' satisfaction. Again though, I don't know what it is that would achieve that level of satisfaction from the critics.

IMO it's just a matter of there's nothing he could do to satisfy the critics, so may as well approach it exactly how he sees fit, under the circumstances of the moment.

Why should minimizing cases take precedent over the massive majority of the rest of the country going back to work?

You really don't have to emulate a foreign plan. We have the experts to execute our own plans and have them on the shelf that we could turn to. If you wanted to emulate foreign countries you could, but Fauci and American public health experts are saying conventional things that health ministers across the OECD where they're having success are saying.

But...but...I thought he wasn’t in a position to opine on such matters? At least that’s what he told Jim Jordan.

That fricking midget is the embodiment of the deep state. He needs to be strung up.

Because the economy is primarily being damaged by the pandemic, not the closings. The economy can't be healthy while the cases rage.

This reject of a researcher repeatedly stated he would not opine on issues of governance one way or the other.

We are doing around 800,000 test per day. No other country is close to that number.

So you advocate shutting the economy down more than it is?
