Had to put my heathen dog down this morning. Stayed with him till the end.

I still think the first time coming home when the dog isn't there to greet you is worse than that last vet visit.

Anyway, scratch your dog's ears and give him/her a treat tonight.

Nothing like having to put a pet down to put your mood in the dumps for a while.

It's never an easy decision and when I've made it, it was all about quality of life for the animal. To me, it's more inhumane to see your pet suffer than it is to put it out of its misery.

I'm sure you made the right choice, but it's never an easy one.

Sorry to hear. I’m not far from the same ordeal with my 13 year old 32# miniature dachshund. $400 a week for antibiotics isn’t a way to be for either of us.

Losing a dog is a tough deal. Prayers for you.

Gosh dang. You aint lying about that first time coming home. One of mine was killed while I was at work a few weeks back. Didn't cry until I came home and she wasn't at the front of the lane waiting.

You gave that dog a good life and it died happy with you there. It was his time and you did right not letting him suffer longer.

One of life’s greatest tragedies is a man must out live his best friend over and over. Rest easy, pup.

Sorry man. Its rough. My male lab of 13yrs died 4th of july week.. then my female of 14yrs i had to put down on monday. One of hardest things i had to do, sit there and hold her as she slipped away.

Already got another lab reserved and picking up in 2 weeks. It sucks not having a dog

I sure do hate the way you feel right now, my friend. I had to let my right hand man go back in late may. His name was Pistol, named after Pete Maravich and was every bit as smart. I delivered him by hand and was right by him as he went to sleep for the last time. He was a year younger than my youngest son and stumbled along side him as he learned to take his first steps. He truly was a remarkable ambassador for my family. He represented us well and left no secret as to what kind of people we are. A degenerative nerve disease left him without the use of his back legs. We tried prosthetics and anything else we thought would help him, but when you get that “look” from them, you know what the humane thing to do is. I thanked him over and over for helping raise his/our two boys. I still call his name sometimes....and it stings, but I have a lifetime of good memories to look back on. We don’t deserve them and we damn sure aren’t worthy of what they give us. You shouldn’t forget to give yourself credit. Seventeen years of adventures made you happy, but it’s likely pale in comparison to how you made him feel.

It sucks, but in time a replacement will fill that feeling. We are keepers of our best friends.

My dobie was scared of thunder. I still look every time I hear it, expecting to see him coming to sit with me. He's been gone a few months, but after so many years with him, my subconscious still expects to see him every day.
