With all the COVID-19 schedule changes going on right now,to me, this is the perfect opportunity to test out a 8-team playoff system.

It could be a great money making opportunity for the schools. Are they possibly discussing this or is it being totally ignored?

4 teams is fine...even with just 4 team format you get teams w no business in the playoff. See Oklahoma this year or washington in 2016

I kind of agree with Joel Klatt on expansion, we were arguing over which team between OU and Oregon was the better bad team.

Adding 4 more bad teams wouldn't be interesting. OU getting destroyed helped that argument too.

Oklahoma has been the perfect example as to why 4 teams is plenty.

I personally agree for this season. With condensed schedules bringing only conference games and likely rent a wins, bowl games likely being cancelled or dramatically changed and some conferences eliminating the conference championship game, 8 makes sense. This a unique situation that requires unique resolutions.

Say we lose 1 game and not win the conference title and get left out? Bet their will be lot of people changing their tune. Okla with essentially a pass to the playoffs,Clemson the same. Leaves 2 spots for Big 10, PAC 12, which sets up for Oregon to run the table, and the SEC. The big OOC games are usually the tiebreaker or eliminator in such cases. Not this year. So Bama, LSU and UGA could each be 1 loss teams and 2 would get left out. Makes sense

Oklahoma and Oregon were both really good teams last year. Oregon lost to Auburn on a last second touchdown at the beginning of the year.

Just because a historically great team in LSU embarrassed Oklahoma doesn’t make them a bad team. LSU embarrassed everyone at the end of last season. That Peach Bowl was not representative of the kind of team Oklahoma was last year.

Not trying to be picky, but it is not the NCAA Football Playoff. It is the College Football Playoff committee that runs the playoffs for FBS schools. CFP Administration, LLC, manages the administrative operations of the College Football Playoff. Members of the company are the 10 FBS conferences and the University of Notre Dame. Five of those members represent leagues that have never played in the playoff.

Because of this, Division I FBS football is the only NCAA sport in which a yearly champion is not determined by an NCAA championship event. The NCAA has nothing to do the FBS College Football Playoffs.

just another opportunity for a team to be granted a mulligan.

win your conference championship and you're in.

I am for expanding the playoffs. I don't get why people are against it. I think 8 is a good number. Give top two teams a bye week play every week till semi-finals then give the two teams in the champ a bye week.

Edit: Not saying this could or should happen this year, just eventually.

The 4th seeded team is rarely competitive in the playoffs. Why would you want 8?
