Yes. You instantaneously cease having any relationship and contact with your parents, siblings, family, and friends more or less. You'll miss all milestones - births, weddings, funerals, graduations, baptisms, birthdays, retirement parties, and so on. Man, that's got to be rough knowing that you're basically removed from their lives, and vice versa for the parents. Just a horrible situation all around.

Apparently the original plea deal talks fell apart because Ward & his family felt that he could/would eventually get off without having to do any time. That plan didn't work out too well.
Only chance he'll have at Angola is to join the Aryan brotherhood. This is gonna be like the real-life version of that movie Shot Caller

Booking info and mugshot
ETA: For some reason the mugshot will not appear on the page (typical Louisiana - it doesn't work). Just right click and select open image in new tab and then it'll appear.

Completely incorrect

There is no way their lawyer didn't advise them better than that.

Perhaps, but that's what I was told... he and his family were told that there was still a slight chance that he could walk, using the self defense/drunken hostile homeless man story. Garrett was adamant that he did not want to do prison for any length, period (in his words: "I just can't do prison.") They decided to take that chance, and on top of that, they believed that if enough $ was passed around they might be able to get him off.

I could not imagine that decision. Either take the plea deal and serve some time in prison but you still have a long life when you get out. Or roll the dice and try to get no time. With it being a New Orleans Jury I would have taken the deal.

The lawyer gossip around town was the Defense had floated a Manslaughter plea with the minimum but that got not no response.

This seems reasonable to me. It makes sense that Williams likely couldn’t see himself agreeing to that (and certainly nothing less) for political reasons. There’s a reason he tried this case himself. At the end of the day, and for better or worse, this guy probably got ultimately the best “deal” he could have hoped for here with this verdict.

I wish the DA's office would put this much effort into other criminal cases in this city.

Oh yeah man, I wonder which ADA showed him where the courtroom was.
It was a good idea putting him on the stand (its usually not a good idea) and essentially putting violence in NOLA out there. I'm sure the DA is not happy with the verdict.

I wonder how long it takes people like him to adjust to daily prison life. Its got to be the biggest culture shock when you pretty much had it all. Then all off sudden your freedom is gone.

I think Ward gets 30 years.
Posted on 5/11/22 at 1:42 pm to djangochained
I set the over under at 10 years. If he gets under 10, he did damn good.

Yeah Ole Miss guy plead guilty and will never see freedom. Mandatory life with no parole. I'm guessing he wanted to avoid death penalty and the state wanted to save time and resources a prosecution would demand.
Life with no parole? Just kill me. Someone might in prison anyway.
But regarding this case was their any evidence it could be self defense?
And frick Jason Williams. Not saying this guy doesn’t deserve a long sit in jail, just that many others with multiple killings now deserved to too.

Other than his own self serving testimony and a red mark on his hand from a picture taken a month after the incident (said it was from the man poking him with a knife), I don't think there was any evidence of self defense.
