Mandatory - need race of involved parties to determine riot potential.

ETA - Typical Advocate shite article. Title says a “K-9 injured” and body of article says a “K-9 Officer”. So was it a dog or a person that was hurt?

The dog was injured. They have been legally changed to officers because it increases the penalties for those that hurt or kill them.

If it's Tigerland, the perp was probably Mexican so this one won't get any attention

My how quickly that area went to shite. Section 8 housing eventually fricks up every rental space in BR

Section 8 in Tigerland was an almost inevitability due to the overbuilding of college properties everywhere else around campus. What did people think that property owners were going to do, and who were they going to market it to when all these new properties went up all over the place? They’re going to have to fill the vacancies somehow.

The same thing is going to happen at Burbank and Lee. Especially as developments along Burbank and river road continue.

Maybe dumb question but, is a K9 officer the actual dog or the human being that commands the dog?

People are going to have to begin to wrap their minds around the concept of revitalizing areas rather than leaving these pockets of blight and crime to take root in the wake of their departures for the new shinny thing down the road. I think the area definitely needed new properties, but the sheer number of them built was irresponsible and not healthy for all of them trying to compete for the same market, especially in light of LSU now demanding Freshmen live on campus as they wanted to get a piece of that pie too.

It would be different if LSU was growing in enrollment, but that’s not the case, so all we do is rob Peter to pay Paul, and relocate. What becomes of those areas we moved from does not concern us, until we start scratching our heads in the near future over the condition of the area we vacated. It’s the same tune all over this city, not just college properties.

Oh I agree, but why would any investor reinvest when they can get guaranteed rent from the government? There is no incentive to revitalize

This is the issue with areas that have cheap land. It’s easier to build elsewhere than to fix the existing problems.

Areas which have expensive land and/or geographic limitations on where you can build have to consider this stuff but it doesn’t necessarily help much.

You can gentrify parts of Harlem but most of it will remain a shithole because of the people in or near the area.

WRT Tigerland, all those apartment buildings need to be razed and either new ones built which will get a higher quality tenant or it red ones as commercial to go with the bars.

Won’t happen because the people who own those apartments are all slumlords who want cheap no hassle income rather than higher expectations from tenants of nicer apartments.

You’re right, when the value of an area goes down and rent is cheap because it’s trying to compete, guaranteed money from the government is a lot more attractive of a proposition than remodeling and revitalizing an area, especially with so many owners involved in an area like Tigerland and trying to get everyone on the same page to invest in it for the future of the area. It could still be done, but it’s going to take one or maybe two different groups to buy the place up and rebuild/remodel the area. However, due to the sheer number of new properties that have been built already it would take a big leap of faith and a real unique business plan to do so to attract people back to the area. I still think it’s prime real estate, but it’s going to take some money and love to invest in it’s future.

Al Sharpton called and needs to know the race of the cop and the dead person before he books a flight.
