The invasive apple snail has shut down harvest at some crawfish farms in Vermilion, Acadia and Jefferson Davis parishes and has made its first devastating appearance in rice fields. In March, the invasive mollusks wiped out a 50-acre field of rice, marking the first reported case of the snail damaging the crop in Louisiana.

I'm glad the article answered my question of their culinary uses.

I’ve been seeing these in some pretty remote places for several years now. They really are bad. They aren’t edible either because they carry the rat lung worm.
I don’t see ever being able to eradicate them, but just like nutria, water hyacinths Rio Grand cichlids, and every other invasive species, we will survive this. It isn’t the end of the world.

Crawfish can carry the same parasite.

Except none of those are a major pest of rice like this could be.

This thing could do serious damage to rice fields if they can't figure out a way to stop it. The problem is, the pesticides you would use to kill it kill every native mollusk as well.

I saw a documentary where a farmer got pet ducks to eat the snails.

It worked well.

I don't know if ducks eat crawfish?
