Played 2 hours and 20 minutes so far.
Very much enjoying it so far.
I think Jin might be a little slow mentally both otherwise story is good so far. I think the acting, especially from the uncle had been pretty good. I do think it weird hearing Samurai talking about justice. Samurai have never really been about justice from anything I ever read. You know, the whole right to kill anyone who wasn’t a samurai rule.
Yes, as had been reported, it does start out slow. This is an origin story. Two hours in, I just now got the bow. That’s a cool mission btw. Feels almost like a gunfight. But from what I hear, they really really keep adding stuff throughout the game to keep things fresh so I do think a bit of patience might help some enjoyment. While this is an open world, this certainly is a very story centric game so far.
I don’t think the game looks as pretty as has been reported. (Ok, after more playing, the game is beautiful but I’d still say there is a fair a out of uncanny valley (hence why I said the game isn’t pretty before)) Stylish, yes, but I’m having major lighting issues. I can’t get the brightness correct. I can barely see inside buildings and trying increasing brightness hasn’t worked.
Combat is good but does take some getting used to. I’m not efficient with it yet. Spears are a fricking pain in the arse. But the block/parry feels better than other games. I’m sure I’ll have lots more thoughts but at the start, these are my initial impressions.
Stealth has been fine. Still to early to really experiment. Also as has been mentioned, the game for story reasons does promote combat early on.

I will play this eventually, but may wait for a sale. We’ll see what happens. I’m still balls deep in a NG+ of FFXV

played up through the bridge scene last night. playing on Hard and the combat is still way too easy. can't really say much at this point, other than the beginning is overly handholdy and meh. im sure it will be fun once i get into the meat of it

Are you playing on a Pro with a 4K tv?

i wasnt too impressed with the early environments either and im on the biggest baddest tv out there. that being said, I dont think any of us are far enough in yet to have gotten to the big beautiful areas.
30fps is such trash, im so spoiled by Nioh 2's locked 60fps. for games like this, it makes a world of difference.

i've beaten sekiro so i'm coming from that in samurai games. combat is just different. so far its just dodge, spam triangle, break and kill. sure it will get much more involved as time goes on. i like the aspect of using the yellow circles for either health or technique points.
wish it had a lock on system.
the menus in this game are just gorgeous though. liking the story.
and can we just say how owned that guy in the beginning of the game got? i laughed out loud

The combat really does make you feel like a bad arse samurai, but at the cost of being a little too easy. Do yourself a favor and play on the hardest difficulty. I just liberated a huge dojo compound and basically walked through it killing everyone at a leisurely pace. Switched it to hard after that and at least it's less forgiving if you frick up your timings.

Are the side quests / missions any good or is it just best to stick with the main story?

The character side missions are supposed to be Really good. I think the generic side missions are supposed to be boring

That's unfortunate. I wonder if it'll run at 60fps on the PS5.

I don’t think I could tell the difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS if my life depended on it

come on man. the jump from 30fps to 60fps is gargantuan.
go play a 60fps game for 20 minutes and then fire up a 30fps game immediately after, you'll be able to see it

Oh I can absolutely tell.

Yeah I'll wait for PS5/PC version, I can't do 30FPS anymore.
Posted on 7/17/20 at 5:35 pm to athenslife101
It's easy for me to tell, but as long as it's a pretty stable 30fps I don't mind it.

As a pleb without a rig or a PS4 pro I feel bad for you folks who complain about FPS

So, I’ve played a couple more hours.
This really is Assasin’s Creed in an idealized setting. Combat is different and some mechanics are different and the approach is different in some ways. But the comparison is unavoidable.
