attic ventilation
This. When I gutted & renovated my house I put new fans on each gable vent. They pull a ton of air out of the attic along with 4 vents in the roof. We have seen significant benefits.

Out at my camp and the AC isn’t working
I’ve got a window unit I hooked up and about 7 fans rolling. I’m going to church tomorrow because this is hell.

We have a bigger unit than what my house needs
I wouldn’t brag about it. If your unit is too big I it’s a problem. Part of the HVAC job is to lower the humidity. If it’s cooling the air too fast it’s not removing the moisture from the air. The unit will actually kick on and off more citing you more $$$ than a properly sized AC.

Have never seriously thought of moving from South Louisiana, but this heat has me entertaining those thoughts.
Don't know how old you are, but I'm 67 and find the summers getting more and more oppressive every year.
As for moving, I want to find a place with 4 real seasons and not just 2 like we have every year---cool to mildly cold and warm to incredibly hot.

Mine kicks off all the time but I keep it at 75 and just run ceiling fans. I feel for those people that keep it at 68 and wonder why their shite breaks down all the time
I don’t normally do this, but started this on Friday - plus shutting all of the curtains. Not ideal, and keeps house dark during the day, but it does help to keep house a little cooler and help the AC out.

Just checked the weather report on my start-up page and it's saying it's currently 84 degrees with 98% humidity for a feels like temperature of 98 degrees-----and it's now 6:40 a.m. with the worst yet to make an appearance.
Days like this make me wish my wife was also retired and I'd pack up and move.

Mature trees throwing shade on your house are very underrated this time of year. Go stand in the shade then stand in the sun and the difference is incredible, now imagine that over your entire house.

The first SIX months of this year were pretty nice. A few hot days here and there but humidity was down most of the time. Come November and December, it will be nice again. Its those 4 months in the middle that make the entire year suck

Pre covid I changed out both units to High efficiency variable speed units. Power bill went down by half and units cut off regularly.
Posted on 7/12/20 at 7:13 am to High C
Both units are certainly running a lot, but cycling as they should. When we built our home several years ago we had 2 units installed because of heat like this. The a/c unit wasn’t large enough at our previous home and it was miserable along with high utility bills.
Based on prior suffering at my old home, I change the filters regularly and have a spring tune up performed.

I've got an old 2.5 ton in a 1535 sq ft house. Poor old gal is struggling hard. Set at 74, but it got to 80 in the house yesterday.

Did that big high pressure bubble over Texas finally start moving? Thing covers the whole mid-south.... That’s the fricker causing this shitty heat...

"Its so hot I'm dying in here" in a 75 degree house.

I have a small emergency (hurricane) window unit in the diner. I'll blast that too when it gets too hot. Helps a ton.
