It’s almost as if their party is milking this for everything it’s worth.

He won’t answer. He’s scared and he knows it looks weak. He’s hiding behind his interpretation of the data.

My attitude is that I would rather deal with it head on now. I don’t want to jeopardize the school year and fall athletics having to be shut down.
Then why the frick are you kvetching now?

I had this thought the other day - like a quarter of the population gets the seasonal flu every year but we don't test millions of people without flu symptoms. Wouldn't seasonal flu numbers also be higher than we think because of people who come into contact with the flu but don't get sick from it? Why are we treating Covid differently? We have treatments and therapeutics now, we know old people are particularly vulnerable. What's the problem with moving back to normal? You can be careful about who and what you touch and still go about your life.

It’s amazing how many of them are scared to answer that question.

ICU beds are filling. Texas Med center reports 1,362 beds filled, 360 of those were last week. 250 the week before and steady growth for several weeks.
People aren’t checking into ICU’s to score political points. It’s because there’s a highly contagious, potentially deadly virus going around.
Look at ICU hospitalizations.
Less than HALF of those ICU beds are being used by COVID patients. You can probably assume at least 50% of those "covid" patients are not in the ICU due to covid.
You are fake news.

"lot of the "new" cases are coming in from people who were tested back in Mar/Apr. "
have a very close relative that is an er doc and been working non stop for months
said last two days almost all that came in were covid ......requiring beds and vent.... they already had converted a floor to covid....
he was having to hold them in the er floor...
does not matter if the covid person is 28 or 75.... if he is sick enough to be there and taking a icu bed it is gone and next icu guy in from a car accident etc is getting shuffled around...

Shutdowns wouldn’t be necessary if people actually did the safety protocols correctly. But based on what I’ve seen, there are too many who refuse to do their part to stop the spread.
So I support shutting down bars right now. And if there is evidence that a 60 day shutdown would work, then yes I would support it. I am not inclined to support a long term shutdown. Having the normal fall semester is my top priority.
FYI - I’ve already gotten Covid, so I’m not worried about myself. But I am very concerned about the at risk population.

There’s not. Problem solved.

How would another shutdown work? We have no vaccine. There is no solution in sight. Hiding for two months doesn’t do anything.

Imagine being that naive.

Acting like this is fake news has definitely not worked.
So we’ll probably just have to suck it up with safety protocols, limited capacity and fines for violations for the rest of the summer.

You scored a lot of down votes for stating something so true: because of the vagaries associated with “cases,” you need to look more to hospitalizations and fatalities ((which lag a great deal) to get something approaching an accurate picture. Do people really think ICU visits are being faked?
Posted on 7/8/20 at 10:49 am to NIH
He has no proof people are or aren't "following the rules" or of the rules are effective so he's just making stuff up at this point like the local Texas governments have been doing.
Posted on 7/8/20 at 10:50 am to Pooka
You didn’t address my point at all
There’s absolutely no logic behind continuing to hide for a virus that isn’t going away.

He saw a few clickbait articles about bars that cater to 22 year olds and is adamant no one is following muh rules

Hospitalizations have risen in Houston for a month plus and deaths have not nearly followed
Either the ICUs are becoming magical at Covid treatment or they’re likely admitting people in those beds who would recover at home.

And he's also reading people post online questioning the effectiveness of masks so he assumes everybody is walking into Kroger coughing on everything and screaming at employees for enforcing them lol I have friends like this.
