Chiefs and QB Patrick Mahomes have reached agreement on a 10-year -- 10-year! -- contract extension that ties him to Kansas City through the 2031 season, league sources tell ESPN.

Edit: 10 year, $450 million
$140 million injury guarantee

Edit 2:

@AdamSchefter Starting in 2022, and for 10 years running, Patrick Mahomes has a $1.25 million incentive for winning AFC Championship game and a $1.25 million incentive for winning NFL MVP, per source. That’s $25M of incentives over 10 years, taking value of his deal from $477M to $503M.

Seems pretty short sided on mahomes part to agree to something that long term.

Wonder if they got creative with the cap percentages at all. If not that contract could be table scraps a couple seasons into it

Not if it’s 40/ year plus incentives pushing it to 45+...

AND about a huge signing bonus AND fully guaranteed????

Hes totally worth it but I don't think I have ever heard of 10 year contract for a football player.

It’ll be redone in 5 years or less

McNabb signed a 12 year extension back in his day

But I believe the previous CBA had limitations on how long a new year added contract could be only up to 6 years. Not sure if that got lost in this CBA or if it just doesn’t matter since he’s still got 2-3 years left on his rookie deal

I wouldn't be surprised to see it going up toward 400 million total for the deal. depending on the guarantee, I don't blame him

I didn’t even think 10-year extensions were possible

He deserves it
