I mean I’m not saying he’s gonna be hurting for money, but you’re leaving a lot of leverage on the table without much upside by locking into a long term deal like that.

Salary cap is still likely to go up a good bit in the next 10 years, 40 mil could be like top 15 QB base money by then who knows

More power to him and the chiefs getting it done tho

It’s going to be interesting when some QB looks at a team and has to pretend they’re better than Mahomes and deserve more money.

Cap will probably be lower over the next 2-3 years to try to balance money lost this season. Plus, like Lester said, all the QAnon people swore off the NFL so that's gotta hurt their bottom line.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it going up toward 400 million total for the deal. depending on the guarantee, I don't blame him

Yeah but that would be a monster precedent to set and NFL teams are not usually big fans of setting precedents I’m prepared for this number to be lower than that, closer or under 300 mil. He’ll be underpaid no matter the number

I dont follow the NFL CBA at all so shed some light for me, can he simply negotiate a NBA type deal where he ties his salary to the cap?

I'd rather take my chances with Dalton than pay Dak $40 mil/yr

Only player in the NFL worth that kind of extension

Mahomes never won an SEC championship. Aj McCarron would take him down H2H

People have suggested that it’s possible. I’m not exactly sure if there’s a provision against that, mostly bc I’ve never heard of one before when people have discussed the idea

I think it’s more of one of those things that just “aren’t done” and are an unspoken rule between the owners if anything.

And it’s still guaranteed money and ensures if he turns his leg backwards like a Barbie tomorrow he will never want again.

Endorsements are going to make him a very happy man anyways, will be the majority of his take coming from that

Patrick Mahomes had two years remaining on his contract, and he and the Chiefs are adding on 10 more, making it a a new 12-year contract in total.

This actually kind of helps you with Dak. It sets a ceiling on where his extension should land and also sets a precedent of a QB taking a longer (likely team friendlier) deal and that’s been the hitch between the two sides

Think this makes it easier for those two sides to find a middle ground.

I know that’s what you don’t want but in terms of contract negotiation process, it’s a good thing
