I'm wanting to get out of town this weekend for some good fried chicken - just to get out of the house. What's your favorite chicken place within 1 1/2 hours of BR? preferably something with a park or recreation area nearby so we can take it there to eat. Thanks!

Stockyard Cafe and Chicken Shack are both in BR and have excellent chicken.

In Baton Rouge... chicken shack or blue plate are my favorites but I don’t get to them as often I’d like.

Only eaten a few times but I always enjoyed Big Boys in New roads

Brown's fried chicken in Brusly. It's a game changer.

Find a gas station with a "Krispy Krunchy Fried Chicken" sign out front and buy your chicken there. They are all over the place in Mississippi and all are good. Try to make the purchase about 12:15 pm, so the stuff is fresh cooked.

Much-much too far away from you, and sadly from me too, since we moved after retirement, but the Pure Oil Station in Dekalb, MS, across from the county courthouse, is not a Krispy Krunchy Chicken cooking place, but it has the best lunch time fried chicken you will find in the United States.

Here is an order of livers and fries. I get all emotional every time I see this photo and remember my faded love.

Mr. Google tells me there is one in Broussard, Alexandria, and Vinton. Does not indicate the name of the gas station, but I am 99% certain they have the Krispy Krunchy sign out front.

Oh wow! I just noticed Alexandria is their Corporate Headquarters! What a great place LA is. I bet there are many more than the three indicated if the headquarters is in Alexandria.

I feel a road trip to Alexandria coming on. I might be the chain's biggest fan.

Thay even have a website! You must see it!

Their chicken is even better than the photos. The site even has a time line!

I once had some of the best chicken tenders ever at a wake. Someone had brought them from some little hole in the wall place in Maurepas. I really want to find out where.

Is the Old Country Store in Lorman, MS still around? At two hours from BTR the drive might be outside your window, but... Natchez? C'mon.
