A spike in COVID-19 cases is hitting home in Baldwin County, including Orange Beach and Gulf Shores and restaurants, businesses and some governmental offices have been closed for cleaning.

At least eight restaurants have reported employees testing positive for the virus and two dispatchers with the Orange Beach Police Department who worked the same shift in the same room both tested positive for COVID-19. No one else in the OBPD has been diagnosed. The Regions bank branch in Orange Beach was recently closed for a few days when one of its employees contracted the virus as was City Hall in Fairhope.

The restaurants with known cases are De Soto’s Seafood Kitchen, The Hangout, Picnic Beach, GTs On the Bay, Cosmo's Restaurant and Bar and Luna's Eat & Drink. De Soto’s, Luna's, Cobalt and GTs were the latest to announce infections with posts on social media on June 28. Both said they would be closing for a deep cleaning of the restaurants with GTs saying it would clean on June 28 and open for regular hours on June 29 and Luna's will reopen June 29 at 4 p.m. Cosmo's and Cobalt said they would deep clean on June 29 and June 30 and reopen on June 30 at 4 p.m. De Soto’s post said they take as many days as necessary to complete the deep cleaning.

Also announcing COVID-19 positive tests for employees was the Original Oyster House which announced about 3 p.m. on June 28 it was closing for cleaning. The social media post didn't say when they planned to reopen.

Something to note if you have a beach trip coming up. Make sure the restaurant you're going to is open.

The rational thing would be to say,

“If you are morbidly obese, have Lupus, or over 70 you should not go out in orange beach”

But we live in a fricking clown world.

This is great news. Creating herd immunity even before a vaccine is released.

deep cleaning.

Is that necessary? I thought the virus didn't last long on surfaces - just leave the place closed for a few days. Deep clean and the restaurant will smell like clorox.

Whatever. Just don’t close the beach down. The condo has a full kitchen and the resort has a lazy river. I just want to be on the beach and swim in the pool. I’ll cook the whole time.

Yea, and none of theme are sick. And guess what? Probably half the people in the U.S. would test positive for antibodies associated with various strains of influenza and guess what? None of them are sick......

Good. They probably had no clue and felt fine like the majority of people.
