I’m pretty sure Ensminger wore #5. That looks like part of a 3 on that jersey.

I was 20, hammered and agree, insane atmosphere

the student section chanting/cheering "we. are. proud of you. we are proud of you" after the game was over gave me chills

I was 9 years old with my dad at that game. That was one of the most stacked USC teams of all time - maybe one of the most stacked in NCAA football history. Charles White was a beast. LSU should have won the damn game. Scared the shite out of all those elite athletes. LA athletes just have something other states don’t have and Bo Pelini recognized it during his time at LSU - they are just tougher and make the out of state kids have to step up.

Isn't that Coach E in the background (walking with head down a bit)?
Steve was #5. I think that's Jude Hernandez, RB.

At one there was a great pic of Charles White being gang tackled by the LSU defense / I haven’t been able to find it

I was there too ! In over 40 years, I have not seen a more exciting game, electric atmosphere and there have been some great ones too no doubt !

I was 18. Drunk off my arse. Insane atmosphere is an understatement!
This was the game that even the aisles in the student section were used as seats. The student section was shoulder to shoulder people. If you left to go to the bathroom, you lost your "seat." IDs were punched which meant that unlimited students were let into the game.
What a game and such a shame we were robbed by the zebras.
I remember a sheet hanging out of the north end zone dorm window saying something derogatory about Trojans/The Condoms.
And that's about all I remember of that night.

I was there...we got fricked in that game with the refs not calling false start on the 2 USC lineman that moved before the snap on the play that the facemask was called...
and yes for all those that still cry "there was no facemask", yes there was, go to youtube, its there...

How did it compare to Florida 97 or UGA 03?

I think those games were just as good as far as atmosphere. I was at all 3. The USC game had an aura about it because it was a David vs Goliath situation plus I was younger. The Georgia game was great except for the fact that it was a day game. The Florida game was insane also. Probably my Top 3 Tiger Stadium games.

Good stuff. UF 97 seemed invincible at the time. Beating them was surreal. A truly unforgettable game.
The loudest I've ever heard the stadium was UF 07 when they announced the USC score. If you were there you know what I'm talking about.

Was there! Was 17! My favorite all time game in Tiger Stadium!

You can find a few uncommon shots in Getty Images, but I don't know if they're going to show what you're looking for.
There's also a pretty high quality DVD that you can find of the complete game - the actual ESPN broadcast, not the "USC version".
And I sincerely hope your dad has told you it'll always be the most memorable game ever played on that field.

ESPN did not broadcast this game - the only version is the USC version. ESPN did not start college football until 82

Nice, yeah I heard Cholly made a big deal out of it too, but apparently we earned USC's respect that night, and put up a helluva fight ha.
That's Les Miles talk for "we had a lot of want".

If they call the O-line movement, the play stops and there neva is a face mask. We got hosed, neva felt worse after a game.

this is totally wrong! TBS became the first cable station to nationally broadcast college football live when it began airing games during the 1982 season. The games were aired under a special "supplemental" television contract with the NCAA.[34] ESPN followed later the same year, starting with a simulcast of the Independence Bowl match-up between Kansas State and the University of Wisconsin on December 11, 1982, which was the first college football game shown live on ESPN. (TBS subsequently left the field for several years, but again broadcast college football games from 2002–2006, showing Big 12 and Pac-10 matchups sublicensed from Fox Sports Net.)
