The fact he generates so much traffic on just the OT tells you all you need to know about his GOAT status
That is due to a video game in the 80s and a cameo in The Hangover
Those things are not really about his boxing.

Tyson was a bad arse dude, but WHY did Buster Douglas beat him down????????
At the time Tyson was going through some personal issues but I don't recall what. Maybe a pending divorce from his wife for one thing? Douglas's mother had died a couple weeks before. I think I read he trained real hard for that fight and I can imagine he was especially pumped up to fight in her honor. Tyson underestimated Douglas. Vegas wouldn't even put odds on that fight because everyone assumed Tyson would win by landslide.

You do realize that the game was made because of his boxing and he was in the movie because of his boxing.
Are you stupid or do you just post trolling shite?
Can we trade this dude for OweO?

Came in the thread to start linking all-time rankings proving Tyson a top 5 heavyweight....
Little did I know that Mike Tyson Punch-out has greatly influenced my perception.
Virtually every article has him between 7-17 based on merits.
I guess the only discussion is really on where would he be had he not gone to prison. That really impacted his all-time ranking. Plus the death of his coach which set him off u to the deep end.

If Cus had been around to continue to train him, Mike's defense would have likely gotten better. His patience would have gotten even better, as Cus was able to keep him under control. With his natural speed, ability to throw combos from unorthodox angles, and power, improved defense and a better gameplan would have made him even scarier. Tyson's entire way of training changed after Cus died, and it was likely to his detriment.

I’ll Give you a dollar if you can tell me who the heavyweight champion of the world is right now.
There was a time when everyone knew who that was without even having to google it.

Wilder got beat, but was that a title fight?

It's a trick question. The last time there was a single undisputed heavyweight champion was in the twentieth century. It was Lennox Lewis in 2000.
Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua currently hold the belts.
I want two dollars.

Only Robin Gibbons could take down Tyson in his prime.

Sports Wars has a pretty good podcast on the Tyson/Holyfield relationship. They came up together in Jr fights.

Tough win.

I’d take mike in his prime versus anyone

Tiger was first to the steroid cabinet in golf. He is the Barry Bonds of golf. Very good, probably great, player whose stats are heavily skewed by the juice.
Even if true, which it isn’t, steroids don’t really help you play golf. If you’re talking about driving distance, Tiger hit the ball way farther when he was a 170 lb teen than he did when he started bulking up.

Most boxing aficianados would.
People who have limited knowledge of boxing don't understand the heavyweight division.
They think Tyson Fury is a master and can't get caught offgaurd.
It ain't the middleweight and Mayweather.
One shot. That's all it takes. One shot ends the fight
See Foreman vs Moorer.
See Ruiz vs AJ.
Fury himself told Wilder right after the fight that he landed one punch that almost ended it in the second.
Fury is a good technical boxer, but Tyson had Technics and power that gives him the edge over Fury.
He only lost 6 times. He's one of the few champions of all-time that lost the title and regained it.
He's also one of the few Undisputed champions.
Tyson is an all-time great. Top five easily.

Damn. Only on the OT will you find the opinion that Mike Tyson was a chump.
Somehow I don't think these were or are in the neighborhood of other boxers' opinions of Tyson. I mean, Tyson Fury,'s literally named after him.

Tyson's shorter reach was a problem for opponents with notably longer reach. He had the advantage on the inside where he could work more technically than the opponent. Short burst of deadly power.
Posted on 6/28/20 at 5:01 am to davyjones
I still say Foreman could handle him. George wouldn't let him get inside, see what happened to Joe Frazier. He'd have held him off with that jab and long reach and thrown those haymaking bombs. I would have sure paid to see it.

Im with ya on those things. Tyson's biggest obstacle was always himself....serious headcase.

He was a beast that happened to come up in an era where the rest of the division was trash.
Which is why he is so hard to rank.
He fought a lot of guys who were scared shitless of him. Anyone who survived past the third round had a chance to beat him, because Tyson had no Plan B, and his stamina was suspect.
Guys who weren't afraid of him took him to the woodshed.
