When will Yale University be called on to change its name?

Yale University is named after Elihu Yale. Yale was not just a slave owner, but an actual slave trader.
These are the types of places that have been leading the charge on the sanitizing of history while sitting in their ivory towers collecting multi-billion dollar endowments. The hypocrisy is mind boggling.

It's already happening, they have petitions and everything

They would lose hundreds of thousands of dollars if they changed the name. Their brand would take a huge hit.
It's truly funny to see the left eat itself.

Yeah, if they were to cave and change the name, will a degree from there still hold the same prestige if it isn't from "Yale"?

Donations would fall off too.

A school like Yale isn’t concerned with hundreds of thousands of dollars. I’d have to think though that type of brand damage would be easily in the millions. Plus it would probably stain every Yale graduate in some way.

Slave trader!!!!
Not only must the name change but the institution must burn down. Also the endowment must be use for reparations. All alumni shall be taxed on income to provide for a future reparation revenue stream.
Anything less is an insult to all black Americans, indigenous people, women, and alphabet people.

30.31 billion USD...that is the approximate value of the Yale University endowment, give or take a few.

Dude was the president of one of the oldest companies in their entire world. Every fricking body in power back then owned a few slaves. These motherfrickers want to whitewash history. I’m just waiting on the idiots around here to get woked up about Mer Rouge and Morehouse Parish’s origin with the slave owning Davenport’s. Where does this end exactly? We just gonna declare war on symbolism until all the murders magically stop?

I love seeing them targeted.
But I don't like the precedent with university names.
On the other hand, if universities have to go back to the old name, the meltdown in Lafayette might be worth it...

Massive troll job about it on twitter the last couple of days. All the blue checks on the right have been tweeting about it. The best are when they get to one of the Yale graduates who call everyone a racist for everything (then hit them with some of their own medicine for supporting such a racist place) etc. They are stuck with nothing to say

This. Damage would primarily be to alumni. Their brand will suffer and they will hypocritically fight this. Let’s go

Years ago someone composed a prescient epitaph:
quote:
Born in America, in Europe bred
In Africa travell'd and in Asia wed
Where long he liv'd and thriv'd; In London dead
Much good, some ill, he did; so hope all's even
And that his soul thro' mercy's gone to Heaven
You that survive and read this tale, take care
For this most certain exit to prepare
Where blest in peace, the actions of the just
Smell sweet and blossom in the silent dust.

I hear that Harvard guy diddled his young, male slaves.

Trolling from the right
“Yale University was named for Elihu Yale. Not just a man who had slaves. An actual slave trader. I call on @Yale to change it’s name immediately and strip the name of Yale from every building, piece of paper, and merchandise. Otherwise, they hate black people. #CancelYale”
“Everyone who has “Yale” in his or her biography is a racist who supports slavery. #CancelYale
“Changing Yale’s name just hides their history. Every person with a degree from Yale should b canceled. They should be forced to resign from public office. Resign from all Boards. Be disbarred. Lose their professional certifications. Lose judgeships.
Am I doing #CancelYale right?”
“The total @yale endowment must be distributed to African Americans as #reparations. The endowment literally came from buying and selling slaves.
#CancelYale“

Eli Whitney should probably get a pass here. He did more to help black people in the south than anyone else. The cotton gin was clutch for field workers of the day.

I don't venture into Twitter land too often so I had no idea this was going. A friend of mine was telling me about the guy the school is named after so maybe he had seen this on Twitter.
Those tweets posted by someone else are pretty funny, though.
