Planning to go down to Sabine NWR Sunday and try to get after some redfish/trout. I'm relatively familiar with the area from duck hunting it some this past year, but as an Ohio transplant looking to see if anyone has any helpful tips and tricks

Hadn’t fished the area since I was young but make sure the refuge is open right now. I remember the refuge was pretty fresh back in the day, caught a lot of freshwater fish(20 years ago ). The OB members from the area should have some info though. You’ll be right by big lake and that’s prob your best bet for reds and specs.

I wouldn’t go into the west Sabine Marsh looking for trout or reds. Launch at west cove and head to the first cut on the south bank. You will still be in the refuge but have more opportunities fish wise. It’s probably 3/4 mile to that cut from the launch.
