Searched and didn't see anything

quote:

Nine members of the Minneapolis City Council on Sunday announced they intend to defund and dismantle the city's police department following the police killing of George Floyd.

"We committed to dismantling policing as we know it in the city of Minneapolis and to rebuild with our community a new model of public safety that actually keeps our community safe," Council President Lisa Bender told CNN.

With nine votes the city council would have a veto-proof supermajority of the council's 13 members, Bender said.

Sunday's pledge was an acknowledgment that the current system is not working, Bender said.

"(We need) to listen, especially to our black leaders, to our communities of color, for whom policing is not working and to really let the solutions lie in our community," she said.

Pressed for details on what the dismantling might look like, Bender told CNN she was looking to shift police funding toward community-based strategies and that the city council would discuss how to replace the current police department.

In other words we are catering to roughly 13% of the population. The other 87% can frick off.

I didn't realize Minneapolis has around 400K residents. How/Why do they have so many professional teams?

If I were a resident, I’d move a few miles down the road and purify myself on the shores of Lake Minnetonka.

Whoever offers liability insurance to the Minneapolis Police Department may be asking for this to continue coverage.

Take it apart, build it back.

Sounds like at the end of the process they will still have a police force.

Gonna be interesting. It is a way to bypass unions and have accountability. I hope it works.

Cool. They’re going to address single mother hood rates, failing public education, trade schools, the war on drugs, the welfare state, and the nuclear black family?

All the politicians onn their town council should be forced to live inside the city proper with their family. No armed guards allowed.

A police force is also part of the criminal justice system. The DA can't bring charges or convict anyone without police involvement in terms of reports, collecting and preserving evidence, and serving as witnesses. Might as well close all the jails too, which is of course something else liberals want.

This is a recipe for anarchy.

Maybe they're trying to copy Camden, NJ?

I mean the idea of actually getting rid of a police force and not really replacing sounds like an extremely bad idea.
