Go get fitted.
Your very best drive might be 250.
A 250 yard average is really good.
Most 13 cap golfers average 210 plus or minus 15.

Ping G410 with the Tensi Orange is long and very forgiving.
I use it off the tee quite often. And it is easy off the deck.
Take it from a guy the has owned them all.

How do you make a general statement like that? I mean I’m an 11-12 and most of my friends are around that and we can certainly get it well beyond 250. We just can’t control much.

Because very few 59+ yr old people can average 250 off the tee. I'm 59 and can get it past 250 some of the time but normally it's around 225- 230. When I play with some of the younger guys on here I feel awful about how far behind their drives I am; mother nature is a bitch. Most people regardless of age over exaggerate their distance.

There are data sets out there for averages of various handicaps and the distance they hit a driver.
It is certainly possible for you to hit it further, but most 13 handicaps do not “average” 250 for every driver they hit. If you average 250 and hit fairways, all you need to do is develop a great short game and you’ll be low single digits index soon. I wish I had that kind of club head speed. I think with an average of 250 you will improve dramatically if you get time to practice and play.
Average includes bad shots off the heel or toe, hooks, slices, pushes and pulls. Golf is honest. It is what it is. My last 20 scores include 80 to 92. I only beat my index about 1 in 4 or 5 rounds. My best is not my average.
I’m a 9.4 index. I do not average 250. I might hit two drives per round that go that far. Today on the front I hit one 240, but did not average 240. On the back I also hit one 240. The average of my two best drives was 240. My average drive was less, way less than 240. I only measure drives I hit solidly and most are 220 to 240. My misses are worse.
Only 3 things hold me back:
1. Low IQ decision making
2. Poor execution
3. LOFT: lack of freaking talent

How far do I have to tell you for you to believe I average around 315-320 with my driver?
I say that because I legit play with a guy that is 60 and AVERAGES his driver 265 with some >275’s mixed in there. And I will hit one or so a round 345+. I just can’t seem to hit a damn fairway or straight line with any other club.
ETA: I’m in my 30’s and played from 7 years old through now. And played for my high school team. I took a few years off after, only playing a couple times a year for 5-6 years after high school though.

I believe you.
However, statistically most people do not hit it that far.
I have a friend who is plus. He hit a 541 par 5 in two the other day. I did not. His drive was 303z he does not average 303 on 12 driver shots for a round. He does average around 275. He hits most fairways.
You are an outlier. All you need is time to play and practice and you have scratch potential.
I don’t have that kind of talent.

I'm 59 and a 7.9 hdcp.
Are you talking carry or overall distance?
Overall distance, on a good driving round, I can average 260-270 most of the round. Don't always have a good driving day.
Carry is less. These stats were taken from a driver fitting last November.
I don't have the club head speed for big numbers. You need a club head speed in the 110's or above for 275-300 range.
"An efficient 300-yard drive might have around 12-14 degrees of launch, and 2100-2600 rpms of backspin. Of course it is possible to go 300 outside these parameters, but it might take you more club head speed than the 108."

While I am a big guy, I am 64 and I still have the ability to pump it out as far as most 30 year olds. I know this because I play in skins games with younger guys from the blue tees weekly.
This may be a rarity in my case, but I try to manage my game off the tee to a certain distance for my second shot.
I am very comfortable hitting a 130 yd shot to most greens. I like my chances with that shot and whatever club off the tee that gets me to that yardage.
If fact I dread some shots from 70 yards in because I have a big swing arc and it is difficult to take something off for me.

Oh yeah if we’re talking strictly 59+ 13 handicaps. Maybe I misread his original post but I have a hard time believe most 13 handicaps average 210. That just doesn’t compute with me but what do I knwo?

Yea this is crazy right. I’m a 14ish (stopped keeping track of it) but I’m +280 off the tee. I can’t believe people put up such good scores only hitting 210. I’m a good chipper and decent putter (just under 2 putt avg) and I’m a mid to high 80s golfer

Albeit Im less than half your age and hit it longer than you, Im still playing the 1st gen RocketBallz 3 wood. Favorite club in my bag that I'll take a rip with anywhere from 250 and in. Im a similar handicap to you and hit it much more consistent and longer than people I play with that are much better than me. Ik everyone wants the latest and the greatest but this would be a good cheaper option

If you hit it 280 and can get in in 30 or so putts you either aren't a 14 hndc or you are horrible with a wedge.

It is much harder to find good fairways woods. When one works like that works for you it should take something exceptional to replace it. Hold on to that club!

Or he simply doesn’t hit it straight off the tee. Which most weekend golfers don’t do consistently.
