Right. Shaq said it pretty well when someone asked him what it's like to be wealthy: "I'm rich, the guy that signs my check is wealthy."

No, fans tend to side with management because at the end of the day, even the lowest paid goddamn player is making more than 95% of this nation make and then they turn around and act as if they’re not compensated well for what they do.

Are you saying that sticking to the contracts that were signed is equal to them complaining they aren't paid enough?
Right?
It's like if a dude signs a contract to be paid $20 an hour and you turn around and act like he's greedy because he wants to be paid $20 an hour.
There was a contractually bargained for pay reduction for players in this scenario, and they're asking for that amount.

And negotiating proper value and trying to hold the owners to an agreement they made for your skills doesn’t mean you are greedy

And the owners coming back and saying “hold on, we’re not paying you for services not rendered” doesn’t make them greedy either.

Have they opened their books the the MLBPA and shown them what the revenue will look like without tickets and concession?

They sent an incomplete jumbled mess that the union couldn't make heads or tails of

Maybe not, but if they cancel the season so players don't render services, it should be fairly clear who's responsible for no baseball.
The sides have a contract that governs playing. If the owners don't want baseball under the existing contract, the lack of baseball's on them.

MLB owners say they barely made money the past 10 years in their attempts to reduce 2020 player salaries. @Forbes estimates show profits have tripled.

I’m sorry, this is the risk you undertake when you own a business. Normal times, extreme times, whatever. Owners can put a virus provision in the next CBA if it’s so crushing to their business.
They can also choose to not have a season.

They are free to try and renegotiate with the players, of course.
That's what's happening.

The owners are playing hardball already with their weak (IMO) offer.
maybe. I'm not suggesting the owners get a GREAT deal. I'm suggesting that both parties need to find a fair deal.

Uh, there is an agreement. Both the players and owners signed it and no one disputes that it would solve this.
What do you mean? Of course the owners are disputing that the current agreement is acceptable.
quote:
The owners just don't like it and are trying to hit reset because it would hurt their pocketbook, despite the fact they already agreed to it.
I think that's reasonable given that they can't operate normally.
I don't think owners should squeeze the players for pennies. But, I also don't think the owners should have to bear the entire hit for the situation we find ourselves in. They definitely shouldn't do that if they'd be better of financially by not having a season.

There is no less optimal end for me, I have no personal or financial stake in the popularity level of Major League Baseball.
If you care at all about seeing baseball, there is certainly a less optimal end for you.

It’s just business, after all. Perhaps your feelings are the problem?
My feelings? I'm not the one trying to be the arbiter of fairness. I recognize that, logically, the current agreement may not allow the game to be played this year. With that understanding, I think both parties need to step up and find a fair middle ground.

What's unfair about the previous deal?
It was negotiated under the standard bargaining process, and it's not like the owners don't have adequate representation in that process.
